Stacking Washer & Dryers - Same Brands Only Or.....?
We have a GE GFW450SPM1DG washer that we need to replace. The GE GFD45GSPM0DG gas dryer we bought with it back in 2018 is still working and has been problem-free. We have the units stacked, and there is no option space-wise to move to a side-by-side setup. I had been using ChatGPT to help research washers and was leaning towards an LG washer with the intent to keep our existing dryer. Then a Gemini aided Google search stated the following:
Can I stack my existing GE GFD45GSPM0DG gas dryer on top of either of these LG washers?
No, you cannot safely or directly stack your existing GE GFD45GSPM0DG gas dryer on top of either the LG WM6500BHA or LG WM4000HBA washer using standard equipment.
Major appliance manufacturers do not make cross-brand stacking kits. To securely stack appliances, the leg locations of the top dryer must perfectly match the specialized bracket mounting tracks of the bottom washer's frame.
My question is, is this more about brands wanting to lock you into having to purchase a washer/dryer combo? The stacking kit we bought when we purchased the GE set is little more that two small pieces of sheet metal that attach in the back of the units, combined with a couple of rubber pads for the front two corners. Is there no way to reuse and/or fashion stacking plates to accommodate using an LG washer, (likely the LG WM4000HBA), in order to avoid having to replace both units?
