TIL the former Kistler Ford's jingle is actually a British novelty song called "I Was Kaiser Bill's Batman"

As a nostalgia enthusiast of Toledo radio and TV, the Kistler Ford jingle is a big part of that nostalgia. It turns out, the jingle was never written for the dealership in the first place, instead using the song "I was Kaiser Bill's Batman", performed by British Novelty musican Whistlin' Jack Smith. Despite the title, the Batman doesn't refer to the superhero, but instead a military phrase that refers to a servant to a soldier or an airman. The song was released in 1967. An advertising agency suggested Kistler use it for their "Be a Kistler Whistler" campaign, and the jingle was used likely until Kistler sold to Yark 5 years ago. Looking at the Blade archives, the jingle might have been used starting in '68, a year after the song's release, as papers from that year promote the "Be a Kistler Whistler" campaign in ads. I know from memory that the jingle was still used up until the early 2010s, until I can't remember if Kistler still advertised in its final years on TV or radio.

Does anybody else think neighborhood fireworks are more frequent now?

I've lived in the area around Regina Coeli all my life. I've been sensitive to loud noises all my life too. I've never liked fireworks personally, and I feel like the noise is getting much worse than it was 10-20 years ago. I was startled by what sounded like an M80 at 6 earlier tonight. It used to be just one night, and it probably hasn't been that way since at least COVID. Someone shot off several loud fireworks last October, and someone actually called police after being woken up by one. I don't have an issue with people shooting them off on the 4th but there is no rhyme or reason when they do it here. I've heard loud ones in daylight and even during the graveyard hours. Fireworks aren't cheap, so I wonder how people can afford these for months on end. It's like people have no regards for their neighbors anymore, both their humans and pets. I wish there was a way to fix it, but I'm probably going to have to deal with this for a while now. I didn't know if anyone else in the area has this issue.

How far the Blade has fallen

My parents subscribe to the electronic version of the Blade (my mother worked there for nearly 25 years). They read yesterday's edition to look for more information on the OWE festival shooting. The only thing the Blade had about it was a small blip on page 12. Not on the front page of either the main or Second section, (which ironically, had a story about how popular the festival is).

Meanwhile, CBC's radio news bulletin, based in Toronto, had the shooting as its top story, while noting the semi-proximity to Windsor. How does a Canadian news outlet do better than the local newspaper?

To be fair, the paper is now being printed in the Cleveland area, which means the deadline has to be quicker than in all the years they printed at the headquarters, and to their credit, their website has lots of coverage about it now. This is something that wouldn't have happened 20, 25, even 30 years ago. The Blade just feels like a shell of its former self with much uncertainty.
