Hearing for proposed disc golf course in Maumee on June 8th

"A public hearing on the PROPOSED disc golf course along the Maumee River just west of the Ft. Meigs Memorial Bridge will take place on Monday, June 8 at 4 PM at the Buildings, Lands & Recreation Committee meeting. Please note: This public hearing is NOT part of the May 21 Parks & Recreation Commission meeting. Both meetings will take place in council chambers located in the administration building, 400 Conant St."

Currently a back and forth between area disc golfers celebrating the possibility of a new course and attempting to educate on how the natural area can be thoughtfully conserved while offering more recreation opportunities, and Maumee residents who worry about the potential commercialization of the riverfront and the effects on the natural area.

The Toledo area specifically has two courses in Ohio State Parks (Maumee Bay and Mary Jane Thurston) which required working with ODNR, so there is precedent for disc golf courses to be installed thoughtfully in the surrounding area.

Sewing!

Hello all
I have been really interested in learning how to sew for a few months now and would love some recommendations for the best stores to build my supply as a beginner. I have my eye on the Brother LX3817 sewing machine from Walmart that sells for 95$ and saw great reviews on it. However, if you are into sewing and know a better machine please lmk!
I want to start a few simple projects using fabric I thrifted from local thrift stores and soon will be visiting some local arts and crafts stores to get my supplies like Michael’s and hobby lobby but would love to hear from you!
If you know anyone from facebook or any other outlet that gives sewing classes for beginners I would love to enroll! I am really interested in enrolling with (Vod’s here), she seems like a very sweet lady and charges 85$/1.5 hour of private classes! If you tried her or have any other suggestion I would love to hear from you.
Any recommendations is welcome and appreciated.
Thank you all!!🥰

Looking for players for a D&D Campaign!

Hey everyone! Me and my girlfriend are looking to start a homebrew D&D campaign here within the next few weeks up in northwest Ohio (Thinking around Oregon) . Just trying to put feelers out for those who may be interested! Looking for another 2-4 players. A couple things to think about before reaching out:

1.This is a new player friendly group. If you are brand new then this may be the group for you! We are easy going, and very beginner friendly.

2.This is Homebrew, based off 5e, but it is still an Unofficial campaign.

3.Depending on the location for the campaign, the store may have an entry fee, usually these are cheap ($5-10) a person.

4.These will be hosted on Saturdays, likely on a every other week schedule.

5.We would prefer people around our age, 18-30 but this isn't a hard set rule.

6.We have no tolerance for rudeness, or elitism. We are looking for people who get along with others, aren't drama starters and are good sports! It's a game afterall!

7.We absolutely understand scheduling and making it to every session can be difficult, especially as people who work full time and have hobbies and such. Despite this please make your best effort to show! Or give a several days heads up if possible!

If this all sounds like a good fit for you then please message me! Fill out the form below, and I will be trying to arrange schedules and making sure those interested are properly vetted. Those that get accepted will get the scenario and can start making their characters!

Application form:

Name:

Lawyer search help

Are there any lawyers in Toledo that handle identity theft cases? The offense happened In Toledo in 2007. I did not discover the identity theft until just this month...

Toledo Bar was no help.

Called 4 different lawyers and they said they dont handle those types of cases.

A family member kept the student loan refunds during my time in college in Ohio back in 2007. I just discovered that and would now like to pursue legal action.

1 lawyer said i was sol pretty much since it occurred more than 6 years ago. When I fact-checked him online it said 6 years or from the date it was discovered. I'm not really one to to second-guess a lawyer, but I really don't want to be stuck with 60k, worth of debt if someone potentially misinformed me.

Looking for recommendations for a criminal attorney who specializes or has handled many OVI/DUI cases. This is for a friend who's detained and not able to access the internet right now.

Anywhere in Toledo or surrounding areas to practice the Ohio driving test maneuver?

Looking for somewhere to practice the maneuver with the 9ft wide tunnel and the centered cone that's 20ft away. I know you can't practice at the BMV anytime lol. Thank you!

Tracking State/Local Government Officials’ Fiscal Conflicts of Interest—

I want to track state and local government officials’ businesses, financial investments, corporate donors, and however else they make $ outside of their position salary to better understand [and perhaps predict] legislative priorities.

For example, I’ve seen comments about Frank Larose and others having a financial stake in the alcohol industry, which would help explain their nonsensical stance against cannabis (especially cannabis drinks) that was voted on and has the potential to be very lucrative for the deficits to the current state budget. Instead, they’ve resorted to making legally purchased [and MUCH cheaper] weed from out of state illegal to bring into Ohio. Not such a free capitalist market, America first kind of stance for a party that touts otherwise…

If there is an existing database, kindly comment the link.

If there is no existing database, I’m willing to make one, with your help. If your local representative/city council member/mayor/etc exploits their power for the purpose of enriching themselves, please call them out in the comments. Link(s) to your source strongly encouraged/appreciated ❤️✌🏼

MudHens and Rehab Assignments

Hi there! A lot of Tigers are injured, and I was just wondering how to find out ahead of time which players will be playing at Hens games on rehab. I would need at least a couple of days lead time since I live out of town. Is there a way to find this out, or is it a game-time decision with zero notice?

New location, same charm: Swanky Scoops opening shop in Toledo's Warehouse District

New location, same charm: Swanky Scoops opening shop in Toledo's Warehouse District

Alissa Vieira’s goal for her ice cream business, Swanky Scoops, was always to find a location that was a destination.
The owner started making and selling her artisanal ice cream in 2021, she said, added an ice cream cart the next year, and the following year, the business moved into a production kitchen on 10th Street in downtown Toledo.
After years of pop-ups and private events, Swanky Scoops found a new home in downtown Toledo’s Warehouse District at 144 S. Huron St.
“I wanted an area with lots of foot traffic and other attractions, and that space has everything I wanted,” Vieira said, noting she plans for the new location to open toward the end of May.
“I would be hard pressed to find a better location in downtown Toledo, because of the farmers’ market and the surrounding restaurants; it feels like a very food-centric neighborhood.”
Bella Salloukh, the general manager at Souk Mediterranean Kitchen and Bar, shared her excitement for Swanky Scoops to move in right across the street from the restaurant.
“It’s a great addition to the downtown,” she said. “There's nothing really like it downtown, especially ice cream-wise. It’s going to be a good addition for people to have dinner down here and get ice cream after.”
The Fluffernutteré, a creamy peanut butter ice cream with marshmallow cream swirl, is Salloukh’s favorite Swanky Scoops flavor, she said, which is set to be part of the shop’s launch menu.
Other flavors to expect are Baked Banana Miso, Dark Chocolate, Lemon Meringue Pie, Kickback Coffee & Cake, Strawberry Hibiscus Sorbet, and more. The owner plans to rotate flavors throughout the year depending on the season and demand.
Salloukh said the restaurant staff plans to support the business come summertime, adding that even guests dining have asked for updates on when the ice cream shop is opening.
“'It’ll definitely bring more people down here,” the general manager said. “People are excited. ... I’m excited.”
Business plans
Alongside the brick-and-mortar spot, Vieira plans to continue mobile ice cream cart services and wholesale partnerships, and to attend the Perrysburg Farmers Market on Thursdays from May through October. The shop’s retail hours are currently expected to be Wednesdays through Saturdays, noon to 8 p.m.
“In addition to the scoop shop experience and being a fun place, a destination, before or after your other downtown festivities, we're also planning to add regularly scheduled ice cream tasting parties,” the owner said. “I just love that idea as an option for small- to medium-sized groups that are celebrating, if it's a birthday or an anniversary or a girls’ night out or a fun creative team-building event for a corporate group. We're planning to have those publicly available and then also available to reserve for a private tasting too.”
The ice cream offered at Swanky Scoops is a French-style custard, the owner said, describing the product as a more elevated, special ice cream experience.
“We took that same approach when we did the layout and the design for the space,” she said. “It's an intentionally grown-up feel. Of course, we'll be family-friendly and welcome ice cream lovers of all ages, but we wanted the space to feel special and elevated for people that are looking for a special occasion.”
The brand’s colors — black and gold — are incorporated in the decor, she said, giving the interior a sleek, sophisticated, and mature feel. The ceiling and beams are dark gray, the walls are a teal shade, and gold wraps the service counter.
In the last couple of years, customers have asked Vieira where they can find her ice cream since the 10th Street location didn’t have regular retail hours. Now that Swanky Scoops has a spot she plans to keep open year-round — this is no longer a problem.
“I’m thrilled to have a forever home for Swanky Scoops,” she said. “I’m really proud of how much Swanky Scoops has grown, and I'm fortunate to be surrounded by a team that has helped to support this vision for how the business is going to grow and make it possible.”
