(Mostly) Eastern Loop

(Mostly) Eastern Loop

This makes for a nice day ride. Just ran this last weekend with my riding group, 7 bikes total. We left around 11:15 or so and got to 9W Market around 7pm but we stopped for lunch and stuff.

First point is at a Sunoco station off the Sprain Brook Pkwy and a short cross over to the root of Hwy 22. Just north of Bradford, 22 was closed so plotted our own detour and it was a nice little addition.

Stopped at Blazer Pub just before Purdys for lunch. Wedge fries, giant salads and their Cape Cod Ruben is really good. Great staff and the owner is really nice. Have stopped there a few times.

From there you’ll cut over at Croton Falls to a scenic backroad up to Carmel then onto Hwy 301. From 301 you’ll turn onto one of my favorite roads in the area…Dennytown Road/Canopus Hallow Road then zigzag a bit to the traffic circle at the base of Bear Mountain road. The Redline Roadhouse is a biker bar if you feel so inclined.

(Note…when you turn off 301 it’s a residential street for a while. Blind corners and driveways. It’s 30mph…keep it reasonable, it’s still fun.)

The route includes a trip up Bear Mountain to the Perkins Memorial Tower. The State Park Police are suuupperr serious fyi. Finally run down Palisades Pkwy to 9W Market.

Here’s a local one for you. Did this with a few friends last summer. A little smaller at only 200 miles haha and makes for a nice full day ride. Probably run it again this year.

Route starts at a gas station right off I-87 which makes for a nice meeting point.

Cuts across Harriman on the lower road, through Warwick and then to the High Point Monument in NJ. You have to pay to ride up but it’s a nice view and place to rest, not a lot of shade though.

Back to Hwy 23 and up to Port Jervis and onto Hawks Nest. Cross the Delaware at Shohola, PA and swing by Rohman’s Pub for some food or a round of bowling.

After that you’ll wind your way back through PA and NJ to get to Hwy 23 (on its own it’s a good road) and a small off-shoot to a last little bit of fun before expressway to the GWB. The last marker on the track is to the park under the bridge.

Note that some of the small gas stations along the Delaware River are not 24hrs. We almost had a fuel emergency.

Have 2 or 3 more if you want me to post them up. Pretty much all are full day rides

Couple months ago I bought a new bike in South Carolina and rode it home. I hate interstates so took the scenic route. Did it over 4 days and 960 miles on a 450.

Mostly 2 lane highways and there is some gravel sections. Max speed limit for most of the roads is 60-65. Plenty of fuel station available for those with short range but most importantly, lots of fast and slower twisties and scenery.

In case you’re looking for an adventure…

God I miss the BBQ

I will say it is kinda boring until Strasburg, VA though a cool section in NJ along a river.
