Who else thinks the pitch for the palm pvg100 was actually a good idea?
The idea of a "companion device" has more practicality than people gave it credit for, and it kind of wasn't even a new idea to begin with. You do the essentials with your smartwatch (respond to texts, play music, set a timer) even though your phone is right in your pocket because of convenience.
The palm phone was basically a mix of a smartwatch and a phone. If youre going on a run then your 6.9 inch iphone pro max probably isnt gonna fit in your 5 inch shorts very well. Youre also probably not going to need any extra functions than your smartwatch already offers. Just cut the middle man and use a palm phone which is conveniently linked to your existing data plan.
The palm phone was probably one of the most unpolished tech products at its launch, but i think if they had released it with a 100$ price tag, efficient processor, and most importantly NFC,
More people would see the appeal, ESPECIALLY so many years later where people actively put restrictions on their phones to keep their screen time down.
