My past choices are chasing my son now. He is having it hard at school because of me. Guilty and I don't know what to do with that matter.
When I was young, I did some stupid things. Like big stupid things, that landed my ass to prison for 3.5 years.
I served my time and I got out at 29. I got back to the town I grew up, and fell in love with my now wife. I step by step rebuilt my life and when I turned 32 we had our son.
My son is the reason I am alive every day, he is a great kid, kind, outgoing, sensitive and he is nothing compare to how I was his age. He is mature for his age (he is now 13) and he has the most loving soul I know.
Living in a small -but not THAT- small town many people knows I have done time. I haven't been discriminated ever because of it, but I had the looks and stuff like that, but never gave a shit.
My son never had face an issue with that at school also, until this year in junior high school. I was unaware during the school year that something was wrong because my son was acting normal, but somehow while we were on vacation, he asked to talk to me and told me about some guys from his class that have been making hell of his life those past months. One of the reasons he is being picked on is because of my past. Fast Forward, I also saw some pretty offensive comments towards me, and my son trying to support me.
I told my son, I am going to handle it when we go back but my son begged me not to do anything, because that will make things worse. He told me he knows its not my fault and that he just told me because he had it as a burden.
We are back now. And I can't just sit here and do nothing. When I try to come back to that subject with my son he avoids it. I know the kids parents and I am really this close to go and talk to them but I don't know if that is the right thing to do at this particular moment.
I have been have many sleepless nights since my son confessed me all that. I feel a burden, and I try to hold my tears back the whole day.
I feel so damn guilty and actually a little bit of helpless. I want to help, but I am stucked trying to figure how.
