CarPlay stopped working

I recently bought a 2023 XC40 Recharge. Initially CarPlay worked fine (wired only, of course), but a few days ago this suddenly stopped. Now, whenever I plug in my iPhone it stubbornly keeps asking me to connect my phone. Nothing changed as far as I know. Same cable, same port etc. The phone does charge when I plug it in. Bluetooth is switched off (I came across a note somewhere that CarPlay can only be used when BT is off). Anyone know what could be going on?

Rereading LotR. Why does the dialogue feel stilted?

I'm once again rereading Lord of the Rings (the last time was about 20 years ago). While I'm once again enjoying Tolkien's beautiful descriptive prose, I can't help but feel the dialogue between the characters often feels stiff and stilted. Much of it not real flowing dialogue, but a collection of isolated quotes in-between sections of third-person prose.

Does anyone recognize this? Is this simply how dialogue was written in that time, is it a deliberate stylistic choice or (and this feels sacrilegious to type) was Tolkien just not very good at writing dialogue?

2021 Enyaq traction battery issues: what do we know?

My Enyaq is a private lease car, and the contract ends in August 2026. I have the option to buy the car from the lease-company, which I would happily do since they are giving me a good deal and I really like the car.

However, a few weeks ago my Enyaq started showing the "Electric Drive not working correctly, please visit the workshop" message. So I did, and they told me one of the modules needs to be replaced. Now this is the second time this has happened with my car (the first time was about 2 years ago). Both the previous repair and this new one are covered by the 8-year warranty, but the dealership told me if this happens out of warranty this is a EUR 6000 repair!

I did some digging, and found this is a known issue with Enyaq's from a certain production period. Skoda is not saying what the root-cause of this problem is, but there is apparently a recall campaign (code "93Q3").

So now I am getting second thoughts about buying the car when the contract ends. On the one hand, I have 3 more years of warranty left, so even if this happens again 2 years from now it should still be covered. But on the other hand, there's 9 modules, with the second one getting replaced soon. So that leaves 7 modules which could potentially need replacing at some point in the future. At EUR 6000 each that's EUR 42000!

Can anybody shed some light on this? Any insights on what is causing this? Can I expect all the modules to die at some point, or are any modules that still work after 8 years probably fine?
