Frustrated with rice
First off yes I know there are other mediums to work with. Do I have a lot of money? no. Do I keep going back to rice because it’s super dang cheap? Yes. That’s my own dang fault right there. I know it.
It either somehow doesn’t colonize (eventually going bad) while another identical one from same batch (and lc) will run strong, or it starts strong then stalls, and even a shake won’t get it going again and seems to dry out in the jar.
So my question is this - do y’all find more success with brown rice if you do not have a filter vent on the jar lid for the moisture to escape over time? or do you keep the jars in an enclosed area so that there’s no opportunity for it to evaporate in this way?
I’ve tried to address consistency to the best of my ability and tried various guides, including ones popularized on this forum so I have done some research but boy oh boy do y’all like to disagree with each other. 🤣 since I’ve tried to keep things consistent it’s that filter and evaporation that keeps bringing me back to question.
And yes, I know I could switch to another medium. I don’t have a lot of sources here and Amazon doesn’t deliver much. I believe it’s referred to as “the boonies“. I can’t tell you how proud folks were when we got a Walmart.
Working with both cubes and pans. Insta pot . I’m using the proper brown rice not parboiled.
Edit
I’ve requested that our Walmart carry millet or rye berries here, but unless it can go into a meth lab, they aren’t incredibly interested in carrying it
