Finished at last: Tunisian Vines shawl, my own creation

Edit: SCARF, not shawl. I re-read the post three times looking for errors and didn't proofread the title 🤦🏻‍♀️

Self drafted and no written pattern for this one, just kind of followed where the vibes took me.

Rambly inspiration story: I first saw the green yarn (Juniper Moon Farm Cotton + Merino) at my LYS last year. I resisted it for several visits because I was trying to cut down on impulse buys that I didn't have plans for. One day I thought "that yarn really wants to be a scarf" and I guess that was justification enough!

I wanted to do something with twists or cables but none of the patterns I looked at felt right for it. Finally I tried out some of the lace motifs in my Tunisian crochet stitch dictionary and found this one, which I modified slightly.

The green in the body made me think of thick vines growing in a forest, so I needed a border stitch and color to go along with that idea. This brown yarn reminded me of branches and dried vines. I slip stitched down the long edge and then came back with reverse crab stitch. For the fringe, I wanted something more than a basic fringe knot so I used two different macramé knots instead. The green section is supposed to look like the spiral pattern is flowing off the end of the scarf into the fringe. (It's easier to see in person.)

If I were making this scarf again there are a few technical things that I'd probably do differently, but overall I like how it turned out. I can't wait for winter so I can wear it! 🧣😊
