How do some people crochet or knit for hours and hours everyday?

I am in my mid twenties and I love crocheting (particularly Tunisian!! ;) ) and knitting, however it can cause my wrists, hands, arms, and elbows to hurt quite a bit if I’m doing it for several hours a day for even a few days. I see so many creators showing off all their amazing makes on YouTube and here on Reddit, and I want to know the secrets to being able to create that type of volume without crippling pain!

What do you do that keeps you able to knit and crochet as much as you like? How and how long do you rest when feeling pain without loosing your crojo / groove / excitement for projects ?

Finished at last: Tunisian Vines shawl, my own creation

Edit: SCARF, not shawl. I re-read the post three times looking for errors and didn't proofread the title 🤦🏻‍♀️

Self drafted and no written pattern for this one, just kind of followed where the vibes took me.

Rambly inspiration story: I first saw the green yarn (Juniper Moon Farm Cotton + Merino) at my LYS last year. I resisted it for several visits because I was trying to cut down on impulse buys that I didn't have plans for. One day I thought "that yarn really wants to be a scarf" and I guess that was justification enough!

I wanted to do something with twists or cables but none of the patterns I looked at felt right for it. Finally I tried out some of the lace motifs in my Tunisian crochet stitch dictionary and found this one, which I modified slightly.

The green in the body made me think of thick vines growing in a forest, so I needed a border stitch and color to go along with that idea. This brown yarn reminded me of branches and dried vines. I slip stitched down the long edge and then came back with reverse crab stitch. For the fringe, I wanted something more than a basic fringe knot so I used two different macramé knots instead. The green section is supposed to look like the spiral pattern is flowing off the end of the scarf into the fringe. (It's easier to see in person.)

If I were making this scarf again there are a few technical things that I'd probably do differently, but overall I like how it turned out. I can't wait for winter so I can wear it! 🧣😊

Sort of free handing a balaclava and want to add knit ribbing, does anyone combine knit and Tunisian crochet and have suggestions?

I am freehanding a balaclava and have done the hood portion in Tunisian crochet. For that stretch classic with knit ribbing, I’d like to knit the front/face edge and neck portion (see yellow areas) in 1x1 or 2x2 rib. I already knit but haven’t tried putting them together.
I crocheted the hood in DK yarn with a 6mm hook. I also did a bit of swatching for the neck doing a couple of rows of Tunisian simple stitch (TSS) as a mock bit of hood and knitting off the other end of the TSS cast on. I found it to be really holey even with 4mm needles. I don’t mind if the knit portion is thinner but I would like the stitches to not seem super wide/holey or the transition really holey.

Has anyone else worked something like this? I would love any suggestions (particularly about finding the right hook/needle combination 😅)!

Thanks in advance ! :)

Question about tunisian blanket!

Hi! I really wanted to make a large blanket using Tunisian crochet, but couldnt find any examples of one made with rows. Is it just seperate rows stitched together in the end? Or do you work the new row in next to the existing row? If anyone has tips it would be greatly appreciated, id prefer not to use entrelac.
