Merriman Hills School Options

My wife and I are planning to move to Akron from SoCal to raise our 6 month old daughter closer to family. (I’m from NE Ohio so it won’t be a total culture shock… but yes, we will miss the constant sunshine)

We have close friends in Akron and have always loved the 1920s houses and culture around the Merriman Hills area, and that’s where we’d really love to buy a home. FWIW, my wife is from the Pacific Northwest and has always had a deep and abiding love for Akron since the first time I took her there.

I’m doing my due diligence in thinking about schools before we commit to anything. We looked at houses in the Revere and Copley schools districts and it’s just not our vibe. I know this area we love is in APS.

What do people in this area do for schooling? We’re not ruling out private school, but I don’t want to send my daughter to catholic school (we’re not catholic).

If you have firsthand experience with the public schools in this area, what are your thoughts? How is the IB program at Firestone? Are the academics good at Miller South, or is it primarily focused on performing arts conservatory education?

I need the 411 from the locals… let me know your thoughts!

What to do if we’ve been feeding from contaminated Nara Lot?

We spent last night in the ER in Los Angeles, as our baby was lethargic and constipated yesterday, then we got the email about the Nara recall in the afternoon and we drove straight to the hospital.

Baby is okay today - after being there all night the pediatric team discharged her and said she likely just has a poorly timed stomach bug.

When we got home, we confirmed we have been feeding her from one of the contaminated lots (we were visiting friend when the recall alert went out and couldn’t check the cans)

We’re exhausted but hoping this means our baby is okay, she has perked up today and returned to pooping as usual.

Here’s my question, as we are still freaking out and trying to figure out what to do: do we need to get all new bottles and an all new baby brezza bottle washer? My spouse and I can’t agree on whether the bottles are fully sanitized if they’ve been through the brezza washer, or if we need to toss everything just to be safe. (To clarify, we don’t use a formula maker, just the brezza bottle washer)

Can anyone give any advice on this? We will have to unpack how traumatizing this has all been once we are fully in the clear, and I hope to god that Nara is held accountable for putting us all through this.

But for now, hoping that you lovely folks here can help my hypervigilant brain figure out what I actually need to do to keep my baby safe.

(Already switching to similac 360, never trusting a “clean” brand again and trying not to beat myself up for falling for their marketing BS)

***update: found this official guidance from baby brezza that came after the by heart recall. Seems like we can sanitize the bottle washer with bleach. https://www.reddit.com/r/FormulaFeeders/s/fIna62IZPX

FSD made me *giddy* today

My wife and I got our Model Y a week ago. We’ve wanted a Tesla for a decade and finally made it happen now that we’re new parents.

I’ve been trying out FSD on my daily jaunts taking my baby to and from daycare, but today I had my first occasion to use it on the freeway.

Y’all.

I feel like I just leapt forward a century or two!

It drove me and my baby across LA, handled traffic for me, saw a crash ahead and avoided it before I even saw it, then got off the freeway and parallel parked us right in the best spot in front of the bagel shop we were going to.

The number of times I *squealed* with delight. This is such a huge life upgrade for me. I had a panic attack on the freeway a few years ago and have struggled with getting myself to drive on it ever since, which really shrunk my life.

I wish we had gotten our Tesla sooner. I felt like I was going to *explode* with happiness… I get my life back, I get to show my baby this awesome city and see my friends and just enjoy.

I know I have to supervise it, and I have definitely had to disengage it when street driving… but I am just so over the moon in love with this car.
