Looking at suburbs to move to

Hey everyone. I moved to Cleveland last year, I’m from Cuyahoga Falls but have moved all over the past 13ish years. Decided to try out Cleveland because I wanted to get to know the city more. I was also going through some stuff at the time and thought I’d take advantage of living in a walkable area.

So I gave the city life a decent shot again after living in two other cities over the years and it’s just not for me lol. I miss the quiet suburbs. I was originally going to go back home to CF but some family stuff came up and I’m thinking of looking at other places now. Below is what I’m looking for.

- Nature! I love the Metroparks and going on hikes with my dog. I’d love to be around some of the parks, trails, towpath. I’d love to be close to cvnp. The city having sidewalks is a must for me as well.

- Honestly other than that…I’d like the town/city to not be empty/dead. I’m not into nightlife but some good local coffee shops, bakeries, local farms you can shop at or butchers, and niche stores would be nice. Example, something like dokidoki and the vintage shops. Some alt/goth clothing stores would be nice but I know that’s a hard find. This stuff is more of a bonus. Coffee shops and bakeries are more of priority for me than the others. I can always drive to Cleveland or Akron for the rest.

So far Hudson seems to fit what I’m looking for perfectly but I can’t find any apartments there. Every time I see a listing on Zillow the rent is extremely high so unless I get really lucky I don’t think I can find a place there.

Edit: Sorry forgot to include my budget! I can go up to $1800 but prefer to not go higher than $1600. Prefer a 2 bed but I’m ok with 1 bed.

Desperately in need of lawn care for mother with dementia

My mother was very recently diagnosed with dementia and the state of her home in Cuyahoga Falls has rapidly declined. I am out of state and am trying to quickly secure her a safer home. She has just received a notice from the city that she must mow her back lawn because of overgrown weeds and grass.

I would be eternally grateful if someone can make recommendations for a lawn service that could come this week to fix the situation and then provide ongoing care. If you have any leads at all, please let me know. I haven’t been able to get anyone to respond to my calls or emails so far.

Kitten help

While driving on Arlington, I almost ran over this kitten. I brought it home to be humane, but my existing cat is freaking out. I am unable to keep it.

I have called Summit County Animal Control, the City of Akron, One of a Kind Pet Rescue, AJ's Search and Rescue, Rubber City Rescue, and my veterinarian. None of them were able to help me.

Can one of you help me?

Renaissance Faire at the Zoo

Hi! I am from out of town, but have been eager to visit the Akron zoo ever since learning about the recent addition of the baby mountain lions. This upcoming weekend is the first weekend I'm free and able to make the drive (about two hours). However, I have pause given I see there is a ren faire at the zoo this weekend.
Has anyone gone to it? I don't want it to be so crowded and overwhelming that I can't easily see the babies and other animals.
Looking for feedback-- it's moderately challenging to schedule a weekend I can get there, wouldn't be able to go until June sometime. Should I just go and deal with the crowds? Or is there not much of a crowd?

Would people in Akron support a native gardening/conservation centered retail business?

I’ve been thinking about the feasibility of a business based in the Kenmore/Rolling Acres area of Akron that focuses on resources for native gardening, conservation, and creating habitats for native wildlife in a suburban setting. I've had a passive interest in this for a long time, but I'd like to transform this into something more tangible that would allow education and accessibility to resources for others in the Akron area. From what I can see, Akron has a strong base in outdoors and conservation through the Summit Metro Parks and CVNP, but I do not have strong research to back this up.

There is a group of Moms in Medina putting together information on cancer and autoimmune disease clusters in the area. If anyone lives or lived there and has anything related to this please help and fill out her form. There is one for Cancer, one for Autoimmune, and one for Pets. I just think it’s amazing work that they are doing. Please help if you can!

Is Depot Apartments a good choice (vibe and noise wise)

Hello guys!
I am new to Akron, even to Ohio. I am looking at Depot apartments as potential apartments to move in right now.

  1. I know it is mainly for student housing, but i am a working professional (recently started my job like a week ago) i am in my early 20's. I have partied a lot too, but i am in my corporate grind now, Would there a vibe gap(would it be a problem for me or the people staying with me).

  2. I am either looking at 2b, 3b right now. I could stay in highland square 1b and studios would cost me the same but i am kinda paranoid during nights. And my selling point about the depot apartments is that it has gym and i dont have to travel for gym.

  3. How much would be the utilities cost?

  4. I heard that there would be loud train noises, how bad is it?

What are the other things I should be considering!

Note - If anyone is looking for a Female roommate to rent a 2bed, you can message me! Then i will drop the Depot.

Summit Lake North Shore

The new boat ramp and dock on the North Shore of Summit Lake is pretty nice. The boat is a 1967 Century, made of mahogany wood. Admittedly, it’s a little big for this lake, but the canal channel is plenty deep, and we were able to clear the bridge with just under a foot to spare.

In earlier times, Summit Lake was full of boats. Rubber workers and their families operated canoes and motorized launches on Akron’s waterways as a pastime. There were several canoe liveries and boat clubs extending from the North Shore of Summit Lake, up the canal, and into downtown; the last of these closed in the 1960s.

Akron is now reinvesting in its neglected waterways, and the progress brings a feeling of rediscovering something that has been lost. Here’s to hoping that the ongoing revitalization gets more people onto the water.

Tracking State/Local Government Officials’ Fiscal Conflicts of Interest—

I want to track state and local government officials’ businesses, financial investments, corporate donors, and however else they make $ outside of their position salary to better understand [and perhaps predict] legislative priorities.

For example, I’ve seen comments about Frank Larose and others having a financial stake in the alcohol industry, which would help explain their nonsensical stance against cannabis (especially cannabis drinks) that was voted on and has the potential to be very lucrative for the deficits to the current state budget. Instead, they’ve resorted to making legally purchased [and MUCH cheaper] weed from out of state illegal to bring into Ohio. Not such a free capitalist market, America first kind of stance for a party that touts otherwise…

If there is an existing database, kindly comment the link.

If there is no existing database, I’m willing to make one, with your help. If your local representative/city council member/mayor/etc exploits their power for the purpose of enriching themselves, please call them out in the comments. Link(s) to your source strongly encouraged/appreciated ❤️✌🏼

Chinese food places with a Panda Express serving style?

Anyone have any recommendations for Chinese or Cantonese food that serve panda style where you can pick 1-2-3 item plates and it’s scooped right in front you? We unfortunately had to leave the Asian Festival due to capacity issues but we still would like to go that route for dinner. I’m open to a little drive but would like to avoid going back to Cle. Also open to other non-chinese food suggestions w/a similar serving style. Thanks!

Looking for Bio Brother- Adoptee born in 1986/87

(Good vibes only please, adoptees have a right to curiosity and to know their origins)

Hi, I’m an adoptee born in 1994 in Akron. In my information file about my adoption, there is a half-brother and a half-sister mentioned who were 7 and 10 at the time I was born and were also put up for adoption when they were born.

If you are a man who was born in 1986 or 1987, (probably around the Akron/Canton area) put up for adoption at or shortly after birth, and whose bio mom’s first name starts with L, I’d love to hear from you. I’ve found our older half-sister (it’s not clear if she would’ve been mentioned in your paperwork but she was born in 1984) and we both want to meet you!

If this sort of sounds like you but you’re nervous to reach out, both our sister and I have done DNA testing with Ancestry and 23&Me. If you test with either of those companies you’ll match up with one of us.

We just very recently reconnected and we’d love to meet you too. We have so much fun info to tell you if you’re curious about our family history!

Trivia night at Tiki Underground

Anyone want to come join our trivia team at Tiki tomorrow? Or any Monday night? It’s from 7-9 and it’s a speed quizzing format. We lost a couple team members due to life obligations but it’s always more fun with more people! Right now it’s me (42F), and two guys (54m and 42m). Great way to meet friends and enjoy a couple drinks while showing off your random knowledge skills.
