Chart performance of Jerry Garcia Reflections (1976) and Jerry Garcia Band Cats Under the Stars (1978)

Jerry said regularly over the years that he was disappointed with Cats Under the Stars' performance, and that it took his heart out of recording for a while. I think of the white space under the Reflections series "The Blob of Jerry's Disappointment". Disappointment is always the difference between expectations and outcomes. We can see Cats' underperformance here, even against Reflections, which didn't do all that well, either.

For the book I am writing, I have been digging in with Jerry Garcia's spoken words in interviews and recorded conversations. Here's the distribution of events I have been able to capture. Not all have transcripts. Most do, but many are partial and some have nothing at all beyond knowing an event occurred.

Once Fate Music is getting ready for publication I will be posting access to all of these materials for folks to play around with using LLMs and whatnot.
