Hybrid camper or no?

I'm considering getting a used camper. Took my daughters tent camping last year and they liked it, want to keep going. I think a few comforts/conveniences would help make it more enjoyable. My vehicle has 5k lbs towing capacity, I'd like to shoot for about 80% of that with gear. I'd also like to keep it under 20ft so I can garage store it.

With those requirements in mind I started looking at hybrids to maximize floor space. I don't want bunks and I don't want to lose the sofa to a Murphy bed if someone is resting.

I went to a dealership to get a feel for how much space a small hybrid would actually have, but they didn't have any. The guy said they usually let them go to auction because they leak around where the tents meet the body. He could have been saying that because he didn't have any to sell, but thought I'd check with Reddit.

So, hybrid or no?
