Should I buy a different hitch?

Title says it all. Seems like my camper is leaning too far forward when hauling. I currently have a 2 inch drop hitch. Should I get a standard hitch?

Remote worker floorplans

Is anyone else surprised we haven't seen more floorplans dedicated to people doing the remote work digital nomad thing? Maybe it's more common in much larger units, but there's very little in the sub 5000lb range (something that you'd comfortably tow with a mid size truck or suv) that seems conducive to that lifestyle. I'm thinking of something that has an actual desk in it, maybe in place of the dining table or the basically unusable for adults bunks in the back. Shouldn't be THAT hard to design I wouldn't think?

Bought my first RV and now there’s an issue.

I’m not sure if this is the right subreddit to post this on so please let me know. I just bought a new camper from Blue Compass in New Mexico. We did the walk through, they showed us how to use all the things, very thorough and very helpful. My wife and I love it. However, the day after we took the camper home, we received a call from them saying they gave us the wrong rv. The serial number was off by one number! So we drove close to 3.5 hours with a camper that wasn’t the right one so if we got into an accident while driving it then I’m sure that would cause some type of issue with the insurance claims. We did call them today and they said that they’ll have someone drop off our actual camper and exchange the two. I feel like something more should be done because it’s a pretty big mess up, they tried to say they were busy and it slipped past them but that’s definitely something they should be on top of. I’m not the type of guy to really have an outburst when it comes to a companies mess up but this was a big purchase and I feel like we’re kind of owed more than what feels like a “my bad” from them. I was honestly going to try to get them to throw in an electric tongue jack and an extra battery with cover or maybe even a reimbursement on fuel. I’m just not sure if that’s enough or even too much to ask for

Broke one, the other is burnt, can't find replacement, help?

Hi! I recently moved into a camper, still getting used to things!

Well, one of my kitchen lights doesn't work, and I was trying to take the thing off, and grabbed it a little too hard and broke it. Was able to take the second one off easier but it's burnt.

Can anyone help me find a replacement?

Need help with the Black Series HQ19

Hoping someone with an HQ19 can help me out. My FIL was in a serious dirt bike accident while camping this week, and I was asked to pack up his site and bring his camper and truck to my house while he’s in the hospital. I don’t have any experience with a camper and I just want to make sure that I properly shutdown everything and get it hooked up to his truck properly before I try and move it. I do have general experience with towing trailers, but nothing with a hitch like this.

Is this the right position for my hot water heater?

I'm so sorry, this has probably been asked a billion times already but i couldn't find a FAQ thread... I'm having issues with the water pressure in my camper and I'm checking everything. The docs that were provided with the camper aren't helping so I'm checking off things 1 by 1

Does this look like the right configuration for regular operation of a water heater?

Thanks in advance!

AC Unit Has Arrived

Just received my new Pioneer REC rooftop inverter rooftop AC unit for my Pro Master 2500 conversion. Was going to install an actual mini split, but I found this one, which is basically a mini split all in one. It's 115v and drops into a standard 14x14 hole and has a heat pump. Had no idea pioneer made this, as they are a leader in mini split brands. Now comes the fun part this weekend, getting it on the roof of my high roof van, lol. Anyone use this particular one let me know. I posted the link to it on the pioneer website if you are interested.

What would be the most practical thing you could mount to these walls.

I have to design a product that you can mount to this wall system, what would you want to attach to you van wall besides storage?

RV, black tank maintenance and repair

RV Black Tank Maintenance and Repair: Professional Guide
The black tank system is essential to RV sanitation. Proper maintenance prevents costly failures and health hazards.
Tank Basics
Most RVs have black tanks ranging from twenty to forty gallons capacity. The tank collects waste from the toilet. A level sensor indicates fullness. Never let the tank exceed three-quarters capacity before dumping—overfull tanks cause backups and sensor failure.
Chemical Treatment
Use RV-specific tank chemicals, not household products. These break down waste and control odor. Add chemicals after each dump and before extended trips. Follow product ratios carefully—typically one quarter cup per twenty-gallon tank. Use enzyme-based treatments for better breakdown. Avoid formaldehyde-based chemicals as they’re harmful and increasingly restricted.
Maintenance Protocol
Dump the tank only when full. Partial dumps allow solids to accumulate and dry out, causing clogs. After dumping, add water and chemicals, then run the toilet to distribute treatment through the tank. Never pour grease, feminine hygiene products, or non-RV toilet paper down the system—these cause blockages. Use only RV-specific toilet paper that dissolves quickly.
Common Problems and Solutions
Foul odors indicate inadequate chemical treatment or a dry trap. Add chemicals and run water. Slow drains suggest partial clogs from improper waste disposal. Try adding hot water and enzyme treatment first. If that fails, use a tank cleaning wand or professional service. Backup into the bathroom means the tank is full or severely clogged—dump immediately and assess the problem.
Prevention
Keep a maintenance log of dump dates and tank fullness. Inspect hoses and connections seasonally for cracks or leaks. Replace the toilet flapper every two years. Run the black tank flush system after each dump if your RV has one. During storage, leave the tank valve open to prevent bacterial growth and odor.
Professional Service
If clogs persist after chemical treatment and hot water, hire a professional tank cleaning service. They use specialized equipment to clear blockages without damage.

We built a hard-shell pop-up camper. Tell us why we’re idiots (before we make too many)

Hey truck campers,

We’re a small team (design in Munich, manufacturing in China – yes, we know, paperwork is fun) getting ready to launch a hard-shell pop-up camper. First batch coming soon. Before we go all in, please roast our ideas. Politely, if possible. Or not, we can take it.

The thing we made:

Pop-top hard shell (not soft, because bears? Actually just durability)

Aluminum composite body

Lightweight – works on midsize & full-size trucks

Pre-plumbed for diesel heater (winter camping = less shivering)

Strong roof so you can stand up there and feel powerful

We need your wisdom:

Would you actually buy something like this?

What price makes you say “shut up and take my money”? We’re thinking 18k–22k (Us dollar) ex-works – fair? delusional?

And please, tell us what you really want:

Battery size?

Water tank capacity? enough for a shower or just sad sponge baths?

Interior style? cozy cabin? spaceship? bare bones?

Any other “must-have or deal-breaker” features

Thanks for keeping us from building something stupid. Or at least less stupid.

Hybrid camper or no?

I'm considering getting a used camper. Took my daughters tent camping last year and they liked it, want to keep going. I think a few comforts/conveniences would help make it more enjoyable. My vehicle has 5k lbs towing capacity, I'd like to shoot for about 80% of that with gear. I'd also like to keep it under 20ft so I can garage store it.

With those requirements in mind I started looking at hybrids to maximize floor space. I don't want bunks and I don't want to lose the sofa to a Murphy bed if someone is resting.

I went to a dealership to get a feel for how much space a small hybrid would actually have, but they didn't have any. The guy said they usually let them go to auction because they leak around where the tents meet the body. He could have been saying that because he didn't have any to sell, but thought I'd check with Reddit.

So, hybrid or no?

Camper Roof

We recently bought this camper and there is a slightly soft spot in the ceiling that corresponds with this spot on the roof. I can feel that it has gotten wet and so the covering is kinda bubbling up but there is only one smallish soft spot. I've scraped the caulk off of this in hopes that re caulking will take care of the water intrusion issue.

I know that I need to clean it better, I have only dry brushed it so far. Is it necessary to clean it with denatured alcohol? I am planning on using dicor ultra sealant self-leveling caulk.

I tried to photograph where the plastic lip comes up. It's full of caulk and I couldnt get it all out. Is it necessary to unscrew it and make a clearer slate? I was hoping a generous application would cover it just fine.

We've had it parked inside for a couple of months now so I believe it is all dried out.

Am I on the right track? Any glaring problems?

I appreciate any feedback. I'm a complete newbie.
