Singapore at night

Some shots around City Hall
Taken with the Lumix 40mm f2.0
Forgot which color modes I used - maybe Rich? I like how the green tones turned out in the first two.

Still somewhat frustrated by the AF on this lens, not sure it is as good as heralded on youtube.

Got the Lumix S 40mm f2.0

It feels really great on the BF. Perfect match for this size of camera.

I can compare it to the TTArtisans.

  1. Way better autofocus (not enough reviewers mention that the TTArtisans’ autofocus is basically unusable).

  2. Way better close focusing distance. This is also to me an underrated aspect of any lens. Can get very close to the subject and blur out backgrounds really well at f2.0 or f2.8.

  3. Not quite as dreamy / character-y / pop-y: I sometimes get some crazy good photos out of the TT. Hit rate is super low, but the hits are pretty awesome and have that pop-y character.

Obviously these are two different price brackets. I think the Lumix is the better buy.

Anyone who has both the Lumix and the Sigma 45?

Feature Requests

Here are my top feature requests after using the camera for about a month:

  1. Full touch screen settings - it’s silly that I can’t adjust all settings via touch. I get what they were going for, but feels like a UX loss when the user is confused about when they can tap or when they can use the scroll wheel.

  2. User imported LUTS - I do get a bit jealous of the Lumix / S9’s LUT features. I like the existing color profiles but it would be nice to import my own. Especially since…

  3. Jpeg engine fixes - the oversharpening and green to yellow shifts are a bit odd and un-sigma-like. I feel like the FPs colors and photos SOOC were a bit nicer. I would love a bit of tweaking to the core processing.

Outside of that, potentially open gate or anamorphic support is the next nice to have, but know this is not really meant to be a video camera.

Picked up a used BF after returning my FP.

This thing is beastly.

First shot is an semi abandoned mansion near East Coast Park, I think it’s called Seabreeze.
