Moving from British Gas to Octopus
I’m having Solar installed this week. I’m with British Gas on a duel fuel tariff. The tariff ends in a couple of weeks and I want to move to octopus to take advantage of their better export rates.
I think I need to switch to a standard tariff with octopus then once that’s done I can apply for the solar tariff. I will need to provide my MCS certificate, the G99 from the DNO, etc.
I’m assuming that my British Gas smart meters will be compatible with octopus.
The octopus general tariff is quite a bit more expensive than my current tariff but I expect that any new British Gas tariff will be comparable.
Has anyone been through this process recently? Are there any gotchas that I need to know? Is it worth considering only moving the electricity to Octopus and keeping the gas with British Gas?
I do not have an EV and probably won’t in the future as I don’t have off road parking (terrace house)
