Are home mini's broken?

I just went to look at my electricity use and noticed my home mini stopped updating at 11:45. So I checked my parents account (completely different address) and their home mini also stopped working today but at 11:00.

The mini itself is still showing the normal white light, and my hildebrand CAD is still getting data from the meter ok.

Multiple cars on this 6 hour scheme

There's been a few posts about this new 6 hour limit but I'm still not clear on how it will work. I think there's a few things that make all the comments and feedback a bit confusing as different people have different setups. Cars that talk or don't to octopus app, chargers that talk or don't to the app, cars that talk to their charger or not, 'granny chargers, managing the charge in their car app or car config etc.

I've an Ohme and multiple cars to charge. I let octopus schedule the charging events in the Ohme. Today I can get cheap charging via octopus go in the day on one car and plug another in for the 23:30-05:30 window.

My understanding is I won't be able to get more than 6 hours charging across the cars going forward. That's quite a few kWh I'll be paying full price for compared to today if I'm right.

This all depends on Octopus being able to determine the load is going to cars so I guess I could 'hide' that by deregistering and disabling smart features. Leave the one at home more in the day registered and 'hide' the other. But that seems stupid.

Do I have the right understanding? The workaround seems so obvious I don't see how the cap is workable for multiple cars. Thoughts?

Anyone else giving up on Intelligent Octopus Go with Renault 5 (UK)

Hi, I've had my Renault 5 since 1 May and love it. I have a granny charger and Octopus as energy supplier. I moved to Intelligent Octopus Go (from Octopus Flux) on 15 June.

Since then, I've had a series of problems with Octopus (failing to) charge/control the R5.

Sometimes it works great, and takes the car up to 80% (in fact usually 81%) without trouble.

But other times it says "Charge unsuccessful - Looks like there was a hiccup during your smart charge, so we couldn't quite reach your charging target" or "Hmm... something went wrong with your charge" or "Unable to control your device - we were unable to control your device"

Worst was one morning I woke to find the car at 92% and still charging - even though the Octopus App was saying "Smart Control Ready". Presumably I wasn't getting a cheap slot as Octopus didn't think it was charging! Presumably the car would have stopped at 100% !

The Charging Insights sometimes show a warning triangle on a session, then later the charge period is airbrushed to look ok.

It's the lack of diagnostics that's most irritating - in the Charge Insights it says "29 Jun 2026, Smart charge, 16h 27m, 2.13 kWh". Really?! They could at least give a bit more data on whether this was during the standard cheap period, or in extra cheap slots, some times, etc. Particularly some diagnostics when it went wrong. There must be some logs somewhere!

Anyway, I'm going back to Octopus Go, where it's more deterministic, the charging is controlled by my granny charger's smart socket feeding a car that's under my control!

So, am I alone having all these difficulties? Is anyone getting 100% success with Octopus Intelligent Go + Granny charger + Renault 5?

Octopus EV delivery query

I ordered a Leapmotor B10 back in March. My expected delivery date slot (estimated from Octopus portal) was June- July. The reg. plate appeared on the dashboard about 2 weeks ago and a few days later the delivery date estimation shifted to July- Sept.

From the reg plate check on DVLA the car comes up as registered & taxed (V5 log issued 30/06/26), but no information on actual delivery date yet. I tried Octopus EV customer service and they say they cannot disclose who the dealership/delivery partner is and cannot give me any more info.

How long do people usually wait for delivery to be confirmed after they've received their reg plate number? Is there a way to get more info directly from the dealership?

Smart Meter in Cellar - should Octopus move it?

My meter is in the cellar of a stone-built house and doesn't pick up a signal. Clearly it should be moved- but Octopus don't think it's their problem. Does anyone know the regulations for this- can I force them to pay for the move? I know they are under pressure from the regulator to sort out non-functioning meters and I've been trying to wear them down... this has been going on for some time.

The 6 hour time slots seems to be finally here!

Not a big fan of it, already causing havoc. I can no longer set charge times on the Octopus any more.

Also the times controls are now seem to be controlled by the car’s app, but so far I have found the car app charging controls to be very flakey and not reliable. I set the charging times in the car app to charge last night, but to my surprise charge time settings changed autonomously without my input, resulted in my car not charging over night!

Screen shot of me trying to charge again on Sunday morning(today) and this is what my schedule looks like.

What are others doing and what has been your experience so far?

Automating Fox ESS battery charging with Octopus Intelligent Go cheap slots?

I’m on Octopus Intelligent Go with Fox ESS battery and solar.
Overnight charging is scheduled fine, but when Octopus gives me extra cheap daytime slots for EV charging, I currently have to manually change the Fox ESS app so the battery charges during those slots too so it does not empty the battery into the car.
Has anyone automated this?
Looking for a way to link Octopus cheap slots to Fox ESS charging automatically

Charge Cap - when are my 6 hours of charging?

Apologies if this has been answered and I promise I searched already.

With the 6hr EV charge cap running midday to midday, octopus will not know how long I plan to leave my car plugged in.

So if I plug in at 1pm and unplug at 7pm and that is it for the 24hr window my guess is that would be peak rate only. But they did not know I was going to unplug at 7 pm so will they have just not charged it at all?

Latest blog says “Your car gets up to 6 hours of off-peak charging per day (measured midday to midday). We might schedule this during your home's off-peak window, or at other times of the day when the grid is greenest.”

That last part is what is throwing me here, what if my car is not plugged in when they have scheduled the off peak charging?

IOG Understanding

I am confused.

I have 2 Electric cars.

Tesla Model 3 and BYD Seal U DM-i PHEV

IOG says that the entire house drops to 8p/KWH between 11:30pm - 05:30am.

If the octopus app creates a schedule between 1:30am - 2:00am.

Does the 8p only be applicable between them times?

So if I charge my BYD at 11:30pm does the 8p apply to vehicle as well?

So what is the need of the schedule in the Octopus app?

I’m trying to rack my brain around it but just can’t seem to understand it.

Should I switch to Agile!?

I am currently with British Gas (Direct Exclusive Fix) on a 12 month fix which ends on the 22nd August.

Current rates are Electric 21.88p KwH Standing charge 48.02p per day. Gas 5.49p KwH Standard Charge 27.17p KwH. I also get half price electric 11-4pm on a Sunday.

No EV in the household yet but I am strongly considering it. No solar or heat pump.

There is somebody working from home here Monday to Friday.

Currently spending £60-70 a month on electric and that is stable throughout the year. Overall spend across the year is around £105 per month including gas.

Dishwasher runs every day. Washing machine and dryer 2/3 times a week, shifting usage will not be an issue apart from cooking which will be 6-7pm every day. We don’t have a gas hob, it’s an electric oven, air fryer and electric induction hob. We do have a portable AC unit that uses around 900w and when the weather is hot, it’ll run overnight 11pm-6am and during the day when we are working.

My questions are what would the gas rates be on agile?

If I do buy an EV, would I be better off shifting to one of Octopus’s Intelligent tariffs instead of Agile?

Are Ocotpus flexible? If Agile isn’t working for us, can we shift off it easily?

Octopus Cosy heat pump smart heating

This popped up in my Octopus app. Did anyone enable this? It doesn't seem to have the same benefit as the smart charging (guaranteed low tariff for charging EV). I don't see the point of this. My inverter's AI mode needs predictable loads to work better.

Newbie … help needed!

Hi good people, please bear with me.

We’ve had solar panels since 2016 and are fortunate enough to get a FIT tariff for generation and export.

Last Friday we had an Ohme home pro charger installed for our recently purchased EV.

Last Tuesday we had a Powerwall 3 installed to compliment the solar and to future proof our home against price rises. On Tuesday we also switched to Octopus’s Intelligent Go tariff.

On Tuesday evening I plugged my car in and set the ready time to 05:30 on the Ohme app to ensure I stayed within the cheap tariff window - 23:30 to 05:30. However, on Wednesday morning I found that the Powerwall had been drained and we appeared to be drawing from the grid with the car still charging.

Also, I assumed that I would be able to keep the EV plugged in and the overnight tariff would charge the Powerwall and the EV.

My wife and I are completely bamboozled by Google searches and calls to Octopus etc and would appreciate any advice from anyone with a similar set up.

The other confusion was whether to export via Octopus or keep our existing FIT export rate (for simplicity’s sake I’m tempted to keep that side of things as they are.)

Thanks for any advice and sorry it’s such a long post.

Octopus Go vs Snug Octopus (for Solar/Battery) - Advice Needed.

Hi there,

Apologies in advance for my lack of knowledge on this but I'm hoping somebody can give me some positive advice about this.

I am currently with Octopus Energy under their tariff Octopus Go, mainly because I have solar panels and a battery for storage.

I recently discovered that Octopus do a tariff which is specifically for storage heaters (Snug Octopus), which would be handy for the winter because I do have storage heaters and an immersion tank for hot water as well.

Obviously in the winter there are going to be shorter days and less sunlight to be able to charge the battery so I will be using it in the evening a lot more and preferably charging it overnight on the cheap rate, which I currently do on Octopus Go when needed, ready for the next day. Also I would need to be able to run the storage heaters because it gets pretty cold in my house during the winter.

My question is, is it worth me switching tariffs from Octopus Go, which is obviously vital for my solar at the moment, to Snug Octopus ready for the winter? Will it work okay with solar panels and battery storage or will there be a conflict at all? Also I noticed with Snug Octopus you get an hour in the afternoon at off-peak rate (currently 9p), which would also be handy to get a hot water boost and a little top up on the battery ready for the evening when needed.

I'm also just wondering if anybody else with solar panels and batteries has switched over to Snug Octopus and is happy with it or if they stayed with Octopus Go or a different tariff. I just want to be ready for winter, that's all.

Thanks.

Massive debt out of nowhere?

Hi guys, my girlfriend has just phoned me in a panic. She’s logged into the app just now and seen that out of nowhere they’ve added 12 grand of debt to her account? Multiple balances where they’ve put -3000 in various months of the year that weren’t there 2 weeks ago when I last did the meter readings for her. Has anyone ever experienced this? Customer services are now closed til Monday. Any advice for how I can proceed with it?

Tesla on order - tariff decisions

I'm an Octopus customer and I have a Tesla on order so I'm looking at what makes sense both financially and "lifestyle" wise around tariffs.

I do around 12K miles a year and where I live the Flexible Octopus rates are standing charge of 56.42p and unit rate of 25.33p.

I could fix for 23.52p with the same standing charge.

IOG is standing charge of 59.05p with a night rate of 8p and a daytime rate of 32.02p.

Last electricity bill was for £58.

I need to get a charger installed and I'm looking mainly at Sync Energy and Hypervolt.

Even staying on Flexible Octopus I could charge the car for around half what I currently spend on petrol.

What I'm cautious about with IOG and similar tariffs is the skew on the daytime rate as there's just not much that can easily be moved to night time.

I also don't really want to run my home life around charging an EV when I'm already saving a fair bit.

I've looked at a few online calculators and they suggest there's probably £25/month in it between sticking on Flexible v IOG based on current annual estimated usage of around 2400kWh.

I'm also trying to get my head around Agile Octopus because we don't fit a typical 4pm - 7pm peak household and could do quite a bit during the daytime other than obvious stuff like cooking - but right now I need to get a smart meter fitted as the existing meter is ancient but this also means I just don't have usage data.

Is there anything I've overlooked or might not be thinking of please?

Let's assume this isn't about saving every single last penny.

Thanks.

Comparisons

Hi all. I’m fascinated with Agile but have yet to sign up. I’m really interested if anyone knows of a site that allows you to compare your usage to see if it’s cheaper.

I am also waiting for basic household battles when they finally hit the UK to allow collection when cheap, I expect I’ll jump then.

How are people using their negative prices tomorrow?

Yet another day with negative rates

Tomorrow is negative rates yet again. It's also pretty much continuous from 7am until 4pm meaning it's easy to plan around. I'm curious how much people respond.

These recent days of negatively priced days have some so frequently that we've no laundry left to do. It's hot so I'm not going to crank up the heat-pump. I can do pointless things like more disinfection cycles or use the immersion heater. I'm not sure my neighbours want me to heat the street...

These events also appear to be becoming quite common. In 2019 you'd have only 10 hours like this within a year. I'm curious about what are people's responses to this?

It's certainly the case that these plunge prices lower my average rate. I consumed far less electricity in May simply due to no plunge pricing hours which suggests it's more induced than shifted demand for my family.

Do people with EVs go on more weekend trips as a result? I.e. are there genuine economic stimulation from these prices? What technologies have people bought to best take advantage of this? My wife wants to dry fruit picked in summer for instance, maybe an electric pizza oven?

Agile Half hour retail pricing cuts my electricity bills by a third! Plus: cheap heat pumps!

This article was not written by me but perfectly matches my user experience. The writer shows the template on how Agile can be run very cheaply. Our family has co-evolved the exact same strategies and our average 12-month price (16p/kWh) matches.

We have the same heat-pump (Daikin) again installed by Octopus but our operational SCOP is slightly better than the author here.

As more and more wind/solar is rolled out we will only see more drastic price differences between wholesale peak and off-peak rates. This makes fixed price deals harder and harder to administer. Either the fixed price rate is high or the energy retailer holds a lot of risk.

I'm yet to hear good reasons why the adoption rates for time-of-use tariffs aren't higher. Normally something consistently providing a ~40% cost saving would be popular even if there are sporadic risks.
