Meteorologist here. Keep an eye out (but don't panic) for Tropical Depression Nine (soon to be Isaias )

TLDR: NOTHING LIKE HELENE BUT SHOULD BRING SOME RAIN OVER THE WEEKEND

There is potential for a tropical system to make its way through the US over the next few days. It is currently forecasted to become Tropical Storm Isaias tomorrow and then make landfall somewhere on the Gulf Coast friday afternoon.

After landfall it is going to make its way into our area, bringing some rainfall and potential flooding. I should iterate that this is nothing like Helene was. One of the reasons was because it rained for 2 days before Helene even made it here. That is not the case here (suppose to be cool and dry the rest of the work week). So expect rain and minor flooding Sat/Sun, but nothing too severe.

Also, that cone you see indicates where the CENTER of the storm is, so there will be some impacts outside of this cone. There is a great tool the NWS provides below that actually locates where the threats and impacts are. This updates every few hours.

Again, not as bad as it was two years ago, but just keep an eye out because the forecast will change. Slight storm tracks to the east or west will vastly change our outcome, so make sure you check out the trusted resources below.

Meteorologist in Asheville Here. Keep an eye on the Potential Tropical Cyclone (PTC1)

Hi!

With the Atlantic season stirring up with a "potential tropical cyclone" forming in the Gulf, here are some places to keep an eye on things

  • National Hurricane Center (hurricanes.gov)
  • National Weather Service Office in Greer, SC (weather.gov/gsp)
  • Jason Boyer, WLOS Asheville
  • Brad Panovich, WCNC Charlotte

And remember folks: THE FORECAST WILL CHANGE. So keep an eye on the latest info. This won't be a Helene type event, but there is a threat for some rain and some localized flash flooding.
