Built a Mac app that takes a film from breakdown to call sheets in one project. Looking for producers to try to break it
Full disclosure: I work on this. Mods, feel free to pull it if it breaks the rules.
The pain point we kept running into was retyping the same information into five different tools. You break down the script in one app, rebuild it in a scheduling app, rebuild it again in a budget spreadsheet, and then hand-make call sheets. Every time something changes, you update all of them and hope nothing slips.
First Read Studio keeps it all in one project:
Breakdown: tag cast, props, vehicles, locations and special requirements once, right on the scene.
Stripboard: drag scenes into shoot days. Cast, locations, page count and day requirements follow each strip, and the day out of days builds itself.
Budget: it adds itself up from what you scheduled and who you hired, using a built-in rates library. Move a day and the budget moves with it.
Union checks: flags SAG-AFTRA, WGA and IATSE issues and cites the actual rule, so you're not taking the app's word for it.
Clearances: a running E&O clearance ledger that scans the script for things you'll need to clear.
Call sheets: one button compiles the call sheet, sides and map from the current board into a single PDF.
Production Pass: every crew member gets one Apple Wallet pass for the whole shoot. It updates with each call sheet, and the base camp Mac scans it to start their timecard. Crew don't need the app, just an iPhone or Android with QR code.
It's local-first, so your project lives on your Mac and works with zero signal. No per-day or per-seat fees: it's $19.99/mo, $149.99/yr, or $295 once.
The beta is open, and I'd genuinely love feedback from people who've actually run a production: https://firstreadstudio.com/beta/
