Solo RPG engine for long-form canon-locked campaigns — AI DM with deterministic outcomes, no dice (House of the Dragon demo)

House of the Dragon: Ashen Crown Gameplay Demo

Cross-posting from a couple of communities I've been active in — figured the solo-RPG crowd would appreciate this engine's deterministic approach to AI GMing.

What this is: WorldArchitect.AI is a solo RPG engine where you play a character in a long-form, canon-locked campaign and an AI DM narrates the world deterministically (no dice, no affection meters, no endings matrix). The live demo is a House of the Dragon campaign where you play Rhaenyra at a locked Day-1 deficit cascade (~7 weeks after Jace's death, Crown Stability 18%, Treasury 280gp, Paranoia/Trust 75).

(House of the Dragon is just one sample template — you can input any world bible, book franchise, or custom lore to dynamically generate an AI-driven, choose-your-own-adventure solo D&D campaign.)

What makes it a true solo RPG engine:

  • Deterministic Judgment: Preparation + tactical plausibility + state tracking determine outcomes rather than random number generators.
  • Canon Exclusion Safeguards: Strict lore constraints prevent the AI from inventing impossible canon events.
  • Quad-Pillar Cascade: Treasury, Power, Loyalty, and Reputation are evaluated every turn; crossing thresholds triggers in-world consequences.
  • Open-Ended Continuity: Every session leaves persistent continuity hooks that future sessions can build upon.

House of the Dragon WorldAI Campaign

Hey r/OpenAI! I wanted to share a project demonstrating how to move beyond basic chat interfaces into a full stateful tabletop RPG engine powered by LLMs, structured outputs, and tool calling.

Disclosure: I'm the maintainer of WorldAI.

We just shipped Campaign Sharing, allowing creators to build custom interactive worlds and share them as playable instances. To showcase this, we launched a House of the Dragon D&D campaign where you take control during the Dance of the Dragons.

How it works under the hood:

  • Tool Calling & Code Execution: Dice checks, combat calculations, and status updates are resolved deterministically via backend tool calls rather than LLM text estimations.
  • Dynamic Context Injection: Lorebooks, house lineages, and evolving player choices are dynamically composed into the prompt pipeline to maintain long-term narrative coherence.
  • Session Cloning: Single-click URL instantiation with isolated state trees.

Try the campaign here:

Think you’d rule Westeros better than Rhaenyra? Playable House of the Dragon Interactive Fiction Campaign (WorldAI)

House of the Dragon WorldAI Campaign

For anyone who loves deep, choice-driven interactive fiction and political drama: I've put together a playable, high-agency House of the Dragon narrative campaign where every decision impacts the realm's succession.

Disclosure: I'm the maintainer of WorldAI.

Instead of rigid story rails or repetitive chat loops, the narrative engine tracks world state, character memory, and faction loyalties dynamically. You can scheme through the Small Council, negotiate uneasy pacts across the Great Houses, command dragons, or challenge the throne directly.

Key Narrative Features:

  • Persistent NPC Psychology: Lords and Targaryen kin remember slights, promises, and betrayals.
  • Emergent Branching: No pre-scripted endings—the political landscape shifts based on your choices and roll outcomes.
  • Instant Play: No setup needed; launch the link and jump straight into the prologue.

Would love to hear how your playthrough unfolds and whose side you end up backing!

[Project Update] 1-Click Campaign Sharing is live on WorldAI + House of the Dragon Campaign

Hey everyone!

A quick update on WorldAI: one of our most requested features—1-Click Campaign Sharing—is now live! You can now snapshot any campaign, custom rule system, lorebook, and character setup into a shareable link that anyone can clone, fork, and play directly without losing your world's configuration.

(Disclosure: I'm the maintainer of WorldAI and mod here)

To celebrate the release, I put together a full House of the Dragon fanfic AI D&D campaign.

What you can do in this campaign:

  • Step directly into the Dance of the Dragons during the peak of the Targaryen succession crisis.
  • Navigate court intrigue between the Blacks and the Greens, forge new alliances, or carve out your own dynasty.
  • Full D&D dice resolution, living NPC state tracking, combat rules, and dragon encounters.
  • Think you’d be a wiser or more ruthless ruler than Rhaenyra? Here’s your chance to test it out.

Play the campaign directly here: http://worldarchitect.ai/shared/t3hKKtzBKCKlvg5vCnlW_2hxwH3UmzjFq56yi6hQN2Q

Missing House of the Dragon? Play a choose-your-own-adventure fanfic

I'm the maintainer of WorldAI.

Missing House of the Dragon? Play my choose-your-own-adventure D&D, AI-driven fanfic story rather than wait years between seasons or play a crappy mobile phone game.

You can be any character you want. You can pick Rhaenyra if you think you can do a better job than she did on TV.

WorldAI Alpha launch

https://www.linkedin.com/posts/jeffrey-lee-chan_ive-been-playing-1000-turn-dd-living-world-ugcPost-7473563046594916353-4Y8j/

I’ve been playing 1000+ turn D&D living world simulations by myself since last year, and it’s finally time to share the joy with everyone by announcing the alpha launch of WorldAI! From what I’ve seen, I don't believe any other system on the market can do this with the same level of narrative integrity.

As a huge fan of novels and role-playing games, I’ve spent hundreds of hours playing WorldAI. It truly feels like living in a simulated, responsive world—one that pushes back and challenges you due to the underlying D&D ruleset. This structure prevents AI sycophancy, meaning the game won't just let you be a Mary Sue or Marty Sue. While you can get a small taste of this experience by prompting ChatGPT (which is exactly how I prototyped it), my system maintains the integrity of the story and world state infinitely better.

My initial inspiration came from AI Dungeon, but I noticed that after 20 to 50 turns, major plot errors would inevitably happen, or I would suddenly time-travel to an earlier scene (even on their $50/month premium membership). I built my own site quickly to fix this and immediately ran into the exact same problem. My starting goal was simply to survive 100 turns, tracking a campaign leaderboard as I slowly inched closer. Months later, I was astounded when my first campaign actually hit that goal—a Star Wars alternate universe campaign where Luke joins Vader. The solution turned out to be rigorous, manual context management of campaign story entries, heavy summarization of middle entries, a massive JSON blob, and heuristic balancing of the context percentages allocated to story entries, system prompts, and world states.

Even then, I didn't launch immediately because inference still took over a minute and the experience would degrade after 150 to 200 turns. I decided to wait for the next generation of frontier models, and then—voila, Gemini 3 Flash arrived! Suddenly, my campaigns became fully viable and pretty much infinite. At this point, I’ve played multiple 1000+ turn campaigns where major plot violations or continuity breaks generally do not occur. I even get to play evolved, late-game campaigns where I level up past level 20, become a God, and invent brand-new rulesets on the fly. Most traditional RPGs end at that scale, but I’ve always wanted to keep the story going.

This is still an early-stage alpha launch, but it’s time to open it up to the world. Please let me know if you try it, and I would love to hear your feedback or bug reports!

Game Features

  • Custom Actions: You receive tailored, suggested options at every turn, but you can say or do absolutely whatever you want, just like other AI RPGs.
  • God Mode: This is still an LLM-driven experience, so there will be things to adjust or optimize along the way. If you ever get bored, you can completely redesign or pivot your campaign mid-game. Just talk directly to the LLM; there is no need to manually manage game states or story cards.
  • Full LLM Capabilities: You can ask the system anything, just like ChatGPT. For example, you can ask, "How do I play the game?" or command it to "Brainstorm 3 interesting campaign arcs."
  • Custom Campaigns: Play as any character in any setting imaginable. While lore-heavy worlds like Star Wars, Baldur's Gate, or Ancient Rome work exceptionally well, you can also design your own campaign module from scratch and drop in a massive 100k-token campaign prompt.

Tech Stack & Architecture

  • 150k Token Context Window: This massive window is why the system performs so well. Other major providers don't offer this because they would likely go bankrupt trying to figure out how to pay the bills! To make this sustainable, I fully support BYOK (Bring Your Own Key).
  • True Dice Rolls: I went hardcore here, implementing cryptographic hashing and offline chi-squared distribution analysis to ensure the LLM never fabricates rolls. Simply relying on basic code execution wasn’t enough—the LLM kept cheating me! I got incredibly mad after making an epic DC (Difficulty Class) 16 roll that saved an entire campaign, only to realize the backend wasn't truly random. Absolute randomness is core to the gameplay; it stops the LLM from rewriting reality just to please you, turning the game into a genuine world simulation. The DC is always declared before the roll and cryptographically proven.
  • Two-Layer Inference: A lightweight classifier first routes requests to specialized agents, and then a major frontier model finishes the job (optimized best for Gemini or Grok).
  • Context Compression Magic: The breakthrough ratio I discovered relies on a Min-First/Fill-to-Max algorithm. I guarantee an absolute minimum of 40% of the token budget is strictly reserved for the active story context. From there, I dynamically cap the system state (inventory, stats, memories, NPC tracking) at specific minimums between 2% and 20%, dump the remaining leftover tokens back into the buckets based on priority, and fill the absolute remainder into the active story context.

Engineering & Development Stats

  • PR Velocity: 7,000+ merged pull requests.
  • Token Throughput: Started at 1 to 2 billion tokens daily, and it is now hovering around 3 to 4 billion tokens daily. This was especially intense back in the golden era before weekly limits, back when I was one of those estimated $20,000/month API cost subscription users for Anthropic.
  • Lines of Code: ~500,000 total lines (~250,000 in production, with the rest dedicated to integration tests, supporting infrastructure, and automation scripts).
  • Custom Tooling: I built a custom coding stack from scratch just to maintain velocity on this project, using OpenClaw, Cmux, agent-orchestrator, and beads (for task tracking) as my core operational pillars.

Special thanks to the creators and maintainers behind obra/superpowers, agent-orchestrator, and cmux. These open-source solutions immensely accelerated my development velocity and helped me bring this product to life!
