It's already toast...

I just bought this a few weeks ago and it's already time to get rid of it. I'm at a loss...

Bought a 2003 Suburban 1500 with a rebuilt trans 30k ago and it's already clunking and leaking after a road trip from socal to southern utah and back. Engine also starting to leak oil after an oil and filter change. I think I'm ready just to move on as I don't want to put more money into it. Has brand new tires on it, less that 1500 miles. I'm in socal if anyone is interested, I can provide some details. Admins, Please remove if not allowed.

Follow up post, -40 coolant reading

Hi all. I posted a couple days ago about a -40 reading on my coolant temp sensor and I replaced the sensor and wiring pigtail but I have not had success to restore the correct reading.

I even pulled the blue PCM connector and I didn't see any resistance when using a multimeter. This is telling me there is a break somewhere in the harness.

My question is has anyone bypassed the original ground circuit and signal to go directly into the PCM harness? I am thinking to just pull the PCM connector again and splice my signal and ground wires into the harness at the specified locations for that sensor.

Any other suggestions??? The truck runs great but I just don't want to risk overheating as I am travelling to Utah for 4th of July weekend pulling a double PWC trailer.

Coolant temp reads -40

New GMT800 2003 Suburban owner, and since I bought it I've seen the coolant temp is -40 (see second picture). I thought it was a bad sensor so I replaced it, but no change. I inspected the connector and there is some fraying I noticed.

I inspected with a multimeter and I am getting a resistance reading from the (frayed ends behind the) connector that changes as the engine warms up which makes me think it might be further back on the wiring harness or another issue.

Any suggestions on where or what to check next? I'm taking a road trip from Socal to Utah over 4th of July weekend and don't want to risk damage if I happen to have the engine get hot for some reason as i also will be pulling jet skis.

Thanks!!

Just picked up this yesterday

Sold my wrangler a month ago and missed having a big vehicle as I daily drive a BMW i3. You never realize how useful an SUV is until you don't have one. I did a ton of research and landed on this, 2003 Suburban LT. Needs a little love here and there, but has a rebuilt trans 30k ago with receipt, 260k miles on the engine and mechanic owned for 13 years. Paint is in great shape and the AC blows cold. Just put new tires on it and it cruises smooth at 80 on the freeway. Needs a minor alignment.

I paid $2300 in socal, any thoughts or recommendations? Obviously going to change the oil and filter first but anything else I should do first that I missed from my research? It also needs a cluster rebuild so if anyone has recommendations on a mobile service in socal please let me know. I really don't want to pull the cluster out myself. Thanks!
