I just overheated my 8.1L

Just wondering if I caused any long term damage, was coming home and got the check coolant temp message, looked over at my gauge and it was all the way at 260, I pulled over within a mile and popped the hood and a cloud of smoke came pouring out, the radiator hose that attaches to the heater core popped off and I lost all my coolant, I filled it back up on the side of the road with what I had and reattached the hose, it was probably less than half full and drove it home, I was only a couple minutes away thankfully, I had reduced engine power for a minute and then it went away after the temp came down a little bit, I got home and filled it all the way with water and cleared the codes, just hoping I didn’t cause any serious damage, I guess we’ll see, anyone else have a similar experience?

How'd id do + what upgrades to do?

Just bought this 2002 suburban LT for 2,950 from a neighbor who wanted to get rid of it! With 132k miles and 2 owners in florida, from what I've read these things are bulletproof I'm just wondering what upgrades I should do because I've read the transmissions can be iffy but this one seems to shift smooth and what to do about the cracked dash but other than that its great no seat tears and no rust but the carpet is shot with stains but overall what do you guys think.

Inner tie rod

Man I’ve tried everything that thing is damn welded in there. I’m currently using that autozone inner tie rod clamp with a power tool it ain’t turning. Do these come as whole from factory? (Center link come welded with tie rods, joke)

Fluctuating Oil Gauge

Oil in truck is good and not low. I have replaced the Oil pressure sensor with an OEM and still not fixed. Mechanic says there are no oil leaks. Could it be a faulty oil level sensor by the oil pan?

Any good headlight replacements for a 2003 cadillac escalade?

What the title says. I believe i have factory Xenon headlights, DIR. What are some good options to change the housing out? I did an ok job sanding/buffing and refinishing them, but wondering what sort of options I have. Picture for reference, before/after

Transmission Fluid & Filter Change — 2001 Sierra

Hello GMT800 owners! I have a question about my transmission.
I bought my 2001 Sierra a few years ago from a government auction. From what I understand, government fleet vehicles are usually kept up with regular maintenance, so I’m hoping the service history on the truck is accurate.

When I got the truck, I noticed it had a transmission service sticker showing that the transmission fluid and filter were changed at 84,300 miles. I bought the truck at around 90,000 miles, and it currently has about 103,000 miles.
My question is: Would it be safe to do another transmission fluid and filter change at this point? I’ve heard different opinions about changing transmission fluid on an older truck, especially if you don’t know the complete service history.
Would you guys recommend doing a filter and fluid change, or should I leave it alone?

Thanks in advance!

What could be causing this noise.

Just got this 2006 5.3 with 242,xxx miles, it makes this sound in idle and goes away when running. I just did an oil change and topped off the coolant reservoir.

I’m a novice mechanic, so I think I can fix the issue. just curious on thoughts of repair, should I plan a rebuild or run till she blows.

A bunch of work but it feels better than new.

New tires, brakes, fluids, greased the front end, and a new output shaft seal. Feels good catching up on all the maintenance.

Anyone else name their Gmt800?

I've yet to come up for a name for my 2004 Tahoe z71. Anyone else name their rigs? Picture for attention running a 33x12.50r22 on snowflakes on a 1.5 inch spacer with no rub.

$500 Suburban

Picked up this beauty of a Z71 for $500 bucks from a family member. She had a turbo kit installed on her that wasn't of the best quality, didn't really ever run right when turbo'd so it sat in the pasture for a couple years until I got my hands on it. Luckily the transmission was rebuilt right before it was parked so it's brand new.

Brought it home, removed the turbo kit and returned her to her NA glory. 234k miles and still runs like a dream.

only took a couple grand and a few weekends to get it road ready. Finally got it titled and registered so she's good to go! I used to have a 2001 LB7 so I'm glad to be back in the GMT800 platform!

An interesting spec

2006 Sierra 1500, 4.3 L, 5 speed manual, 4x4, long bed, w/t.

I bought my grandfathers truck. He bought new in 06 while he worked for GM at the time.

It’s got cruise control, after market stereo, aftermarket speakers, flow master exhaust, ice cold AC. Everything you need, nothing you don’t. No frills

It’s a bit underpowered because of the V6 but more than enough torque to feel like you’re having fun. It takes your whole body to drive it.

It’s a great running and driving truck. Feels great going through the gears and feels great running 80 down the interstate. Really only needs cosmetic improvements that I’ll enjoy tinkering with.

He’s a cool grandpa.

99 Yukon Denali, 235k, $3k good buy or nah?

Long list of work done: control arms, ball joints, tie rods, Bilstein shocks, both cats and all the O2s, fuel pump, EGR, water pump back in May, and a steering box with a Borgeson shaft. Front diff and transfer case actuator too. In person it’s dirty but dry under the hood, body’s straight, no rust.

Only thing nagging me is the whole list and not one word about the trans. It’s a 4L60E at 235k. Feels like the thing you’d mention if you’d touched it, and he didn’t.

is $3k fair for a clean two-year-only Denali at this mileage? Anything specific I should feel for on the drive besides the obvious slipping? And does front diff + t-case actuator work sound like normal old-truck stuff to you or would you be asking what broke?

Plan is to daily it 6-12 months then flip it. Tell me if I’m about to buy someone’s transmission problem.

4L80 questions

Today was the maiden voyage with the 10k dump trailer for my new 05 2500 6.0 after the transmission was rebuilt. It's 1.7 cords of tamarack half-log siding that went 80 miles to the customer.

Other than this truck, I've only owned a 06 1500 4.8 4L60 and... Things are different. The transmission mechanic is not good at communicating and comes off like he's gaslighting me when I ask how these things are supposed to work.

He says the gear whine/whistling I have after the rebuild is normal in 1st gear. I was able to find a forum post where others felt that way too. But... Why can every other 4 speed auto be designed to not make noise in 1st gear but not this one? Does it use straight cut gears or something? It feels like a cop out on his work if he can't tell me why.

Is it normal to have 3rd gear not lock up until at least 45 mph? The 4l60 would lock up at 30 for driving through town and let me shift between 3-4 above 45 mph while maintaining lockup and keeping temps low. It's wild to me that a transmission designed for heavy towing doesn't have lockup at any speed lower than 45, which is kind of a lot of my driving, between going through town and using lots of dirt roads.

Is it normal for a "low stall" torque converter to not even creep the vehicle forward at idle? I asked for that upgrade but right now it feels like it needs more throttle to get moving than my 06 half ton with the stock converter.

Any experience with HP tuners or something else that is capable of transmission tuning like changing the lockup behavior? Yes, it's working fine and not overheating but it _feels_ like a step backwards from my half ton, and the engine power feels like it really wakes up once the converter locks.
