First time planting a pineapple top and have a few questions…

I started 6 pineapple tops in water and have transferred them to soil in pots now that they have grown roots. The transfer was 2 weeks ago The roots were all 4-6” long and 8-12 roots on each plant. I think there may have been one plant that had 2” roots.

The questions I have are;

  1. Should I be adding any kind of food?
  2. How can I tell when the plants have successfully rooted?
  3. I live in the southeast. I read that I need to place a plastic bag around the plant for “5-6 weeks until it roots”. Is this true? They all see, to be more sturdy than the day they were planted.
  4. They are out of direct sunlight, but can receive rain. It has rained so much since planting, I have not watered since that day. Every time I touch the soil, it is damp. Is that enough water?
  5. When I planted the,, there were some leaves that were brown, and still are. Is that an issue?

I appreciate any advice, and am open to any suggestions I haven’t asked about.

Backpacking trip for nephew’s HS graduation

I took my nephew on his first backpacking trip locally (Georgia) a few years ago and he absolutely loved it. He entered high school and was busy practicing and playing sports the entire time, so there was very little time to go backpacking again, until now. He just graduated and said he would like to go on another trip.

I’ve never been backpacking out west, only hiking, and would like to plan a trip for the fall for my nephew, my brother, and myself.

Does anyone know of any apps or websites that assist in planning a backpacking trip? I’m looking for an area that doesn’t require a permit or there isn’t a low probability lottery to get a site, keep it to maybe 2 or 3 nights at at least 2 different sites and hike +/-8 miles each day with not more than 2,000 ft in elevation gain.

I’d prefer it be in or near a national park.

Any recommendations?
