FOI data from u/belfastcc shows Belfast Bikes usage surging under the new operator, @BerylBikes.
April 2026 recorded 14,297 journeys, up from the previous 3 years under previous scheme operator.
The data also shows e-bikes are encouraging longer journeys:
E-bike average trip (Apr 2026): 3km
Pedal bike average trip: 2.4km

The Belfast Circle Line, shaped like a heart for a reason.
At its most basic, it can deliver real impact.
A simple service anchored by two endpoints at Antrim and Grand Central, with Belfast International Airport served via a stop at British Road. A clear, deliverable starting point.
Crucially, much of the core infrastructure needed for this baseline is already recognised in the All-Island Strategic Rail Review. This includes reopening the Knockmore Line, enabling an airport connection, and adding a halt at Ballymartin.
This isn’t starting from scratch. The Belfast Circle Line already exists on paper. It just needs to start beating.
Election year has started. Hopefully party manifestos will go hard on public transport expansion, notably the reopening of the Knockmore Line.
