UL on the Chicago Riverwalk

Lived here all my life and this was my first time trying this spot. Caught 5 bass on a drop shot in about an hour. Nothing big but had a great time.

River Smallie on the Trota

Been so busy lately but was able to get some time on the river last week. Caught a few smallies with this being the best one. Also got to test out the Purelure Trota UL which I really enjoyed.
Have a good weekend everyone ✌️

AWT Minnows are Live on Joey Ultralight

AWT Minnows are officially LIVE on the website.

These are handcrafted from balsa wood in Thailand and available in three different sizes and designs, all are sinking:

• 4.5g — 2”
https://joeyultralight.com/products/awt-minnow-4g

• 4g — 1.5”
https://joeyultralight.com/products/awt-minnow-4g-1

• 1.8g — 1”
https://joeyultralight.com/products/awt-minnow-1-8g

I took some size comparison photos next to a penny like you guys asked for, so hopefully this helps with sizing.

I really love how these turned out. The colors and paint work on these are awesome in person, and each size has its own unique profile.

As usual with the handmade stuff, quantities are smaller and will probably sell out quickly.

A Small Thank You to the Ultralight Fishing Community

I wanted to do something to give back to this community.

When I launched Joey Ultralight earlier this year, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect. Since then, the support from this subreddit has been incredible. Whether you’ve ordered from me, shared your experiences, answered my questions, or simply checked out what I’m doing, I truly appreciate it.

As a thank you, I’m giving away some Joey Ultralight gear to one lucky member of the community.

How to enter:
Fill out this quick Google Form: https://forms.gle/JKcKN9jDX7st3HP6A

That’s it!
I’ll randomly select a winner after the giveaway closes and announce it here in this subreddit.

Thank you all again for making Joey Ultralight what it is today. It really means a lot to me, and I’m excited to keep bringing unique handcrafted ultralight tackle from small makers around the world to this hobby we all enjoy.
Good luck everyone!

— Joe

Vintage Ultralight meets Modern Ultralight

Picture from a few weeks ago during a trout stream trip in Southeast Wisconsin. If anyone cares, I’m a huge fan of the vintage Abu Cardinal 3/33 reels. Always seem to find myself reaching for Cardinals over my modern Stella or Vanquish. Love the look, customization, simplicity and it just makes fishing that much more fun.

I love reading posts and seeing so many new people join the ultralight community. Been seeing so many “My First UL Setup” posts recently which is awesome. Well here is a different view you don’t see all the time.

Reel: Custom Abu Cardinal 3X
Rod: Handing Magic L Ultralight

Quick pond session

Stopped at a local pond after a Costco run to test out some new baits for the Joey Ultralight website.
Was there less than an hour and snagged 5 bass, this being the largest.

Micro EWG Hooks

One thing I’ve really been enjoying lately is using micro EWG hooks to make tiny soft plastics completely weedless without killing their action.

I know firsthand how hard good micro EWG hooks are to find. I remember constantly searching for them and never being able to find the right size for the bait I wanted to fish. That’s one of the main reasons I decided to carry them in multiple sizes, so you can properly match the hook to the bait instead of trying to force one size to work for everything.

In the photo:

• Trout Magnet — Size 14
• Z-Man LarvaZ — Size 12
• 1” Micro Craw — Size 14
• Mule Fishing Donkey Tail Jr. — Size 12
• Z-Man Micro TRD — Size 8

They’re thin wire, super sharp, and designed specifically for ultralight and BFS applications.

Sizes 14-6 are available here:
