Catfish started to bite in my lake and ended up getting my PB the other day. It’s been a sweet couple trips this week and just wanted to share. I use a 5ft6 Ugly Stik Lite Pro paired with a 2000 Abu Garcia Max Sx spooked with 8lb pline fluroclear🎣
Curious if starting off with a Sienna 1000 paired with a okuma celilo 6'6" UL would be a good starting point for under $120 total. Thanks in advance.
6'6" okuma celilo paired with daiwa crossfire Lt 1000. 6lb braid, 4lb fluoro leader. White 1/32oz curly tail grub jig.
Picked up my forest ultralight a few weeks back. This past weekend I caught a handful of firsts that put up crazy fights.
1.) paddlefish. Never caught one before. Fought for a few minutes.
2.) sturgeon.
3.) bowfin (4.4 lbs)
Didn’t get measurements with the paddlefish or sturgeon as I wanted to release asap. Addicted to the ultralight.
Love my weekdays off! No one around but me.
Got my AliExpress special in yesterday after a month. Had to go out and break it in today. Super nice rod for $18! The whole set up set me back $50. Here’s some of today’s catches!
Set up below if anyone cares.
Leydun Blackcreek 5’6”
Kastking Zephyr 500
SOS Trout Line 4lb
Size 16 hook for scale. Made as a micro jig for catching perch in my local canal.
I just ordered a Daiwa 23 Gekkabijin 1000S reel for the saltwater compatibility, slow retrieval and low gear ratio but I don’t really want to spend $500+ on a JDM ajing rod. I am looking at a Kistler Ultralight 6’ rated for 1/32 - 3/16 oz lures and a moderate action since it’s made with Japanese carbon blank, but unsure if I should stick to an ultralight fast action rod. I plan to run 2lb test monofilament on this reel.
I almost always throw soft plastics on a 1/16oz or 1/8oz jighead tied with a Palomar or San Diego Jam on 4lb test. I still want to be able to fish lures this size in the river, lakes and in the bay without being relegated to JDM-only ultralight tackle.
If anyone on this sub is running a Gekkabijin reel let me know what your setup is. I currently have a Penn Battle IV combo with a 6’6 light power/mod. fast action/1000 reel and a BPS MicroLite 7’0 ultralight power fast action paired with a KastKing Zephyr 1000, if that helps.
Hi all!
I ordered my first UL setup today and I’m very excited to try it out.
I like to be as mobile and compact as possible so I didn’t order a net because I will be fishing for Perch and they don’t get too big around here in Belgium’s canals.
But I was wondering, do you guys always bring a net or only on special occasions?
Hey guys! Quick question. Been fishing for several years now. Still always learning and improving. I bought myself a nice medium rod I am going to use for bass or other larger species. Yesterday I also purchased a “light rod, 6.6 foot, moderate action” my dad said I’ll hate this rod because it’s flimsy at the tip and the bites will feel light. However I wanted a rod specifically for pan fish which I still enjoy a lot as well or whatever decides to bite. I feel like my “medium light” rod for walleye was still kind of ripping the lips out of pan fish, especially crappie! *What pound test would you recommend for this rod?* I was thinking 4 to 6 lb mono?* I think I’m going to love it and my dad is just too set in his ways lol. But I’m open to trying it all and want different rod options. Also I know the rod is long but I prefer that for some reason idk why yet.
I hooked into this branch at the bottom of my lake thinking it was a heavy fish, when I reeled in to my surprise it had a HUGE what I am thinking is an egg sack of some kind maybe? Anyone know what it is??? Whatever this is, it was HEAVY and kinda of jellylike/ gelatinous. Anyone ever come across this? I’m located in East Tennessee and I’ve never seen this, it Was about the size of a cantaloupe 🤷♂️👍🏼

I’ve been on a mission to catch all the species in my area I’ve yet to catch (since starting to seriously fish last summer), and after catching an Emerald Bowfin yesterday while bass fishing, I kept the ball rolling with a black crappie today! :)
Went to probe small fish presence, got this short fatty pike instead.
