Is Goku a static character?
I've sporadically consumed bits and pieces of dragon ball media here and there, so I'm not super knowledgeable about the franchise as a whole. But, recently I've been curious as to if Goku could be considered a static character, or maybe just a character who undergoes little development or a flat character arc.
And if so, has that been to the benefit or detriment of most dragon ball stories, especially the movies? I've seen many perspectives that say a static character is boring and uninteresting overall. I've additionally noticed many say that a static character doesn't work for a full length movie since they don't undergo any significant change that would be intriguing for the full run time.
I feel I can recall a story in classic Dragon Ball where the devil tries to pull the darkness/evil from Goku to use it against him, but he has none at all. I wonder if his more pure and true good qualities make him seem dull to certain individuals, mainly during the greater length of films.
