Timings for empty trains on CCL (evening peak)

For those who wish to get a seat before evening peak hours start on CCL, you can alight at these stations and wait for an empty train.

  • 1st photo for Tai Seng Platform B, 2nd photo for Bartley Platform A
  • Those in italics are estimated timings based on available data, I have not confirmed if the timing is correct

For Tai Seng,

  • Only for trains heading towards Dhoby Ghaut
  • Usually the train will remain empty all the way into the city centre. Empty seats will most likely still be available at MacPherson (MPS) and Paya Lebar (PYL).
  • To estimate timings at the above stations, +2 mins for MPS, +4 mins for PYL.

For Bartley,

  • Only for trains heading towards HarbourFront
  • Usually the train will be quite packed once it reaches Serangoon (SER). Nevertheless, you can try your luck if you are at Lorong Chuan (LRC) or Bishan (BSH).
  • To estimate timings at the above stations, +3 mins for SER, +5 mins for LRC, +7 mins for BSH.

new CCL sticker map

onboard first-gen C830 trains. a sticker is covering up the CCL6 sector.

as of 19 May, available on trains PV04, PV16, and PV32.

before anyone complains about "why no LED map" or "why no digital screen/DRMD", this will extremely likely be included in the refurbishment of these trains. the refurb project is currently undergoing feasibility studies.

CCL6 signage design errors

DISCLAIMER: I think that LTA has been doing a good job with improving wayfinding. From photos of Cantonment station, it's really great to see that exit numbers are already being displayed on the platforms itself, as well as what seems to be provisions for exit directories also on the platforms itself.

That said, there are tiny design errors spotted by some of my friends that I thought would be really funny to share

- Photo 1: someone forgot to resize the transparency box properly, so a tiny bit of the "y" is not made transparent

- Photo 2: one of the station signs at Keppel is using the wrong font for the station number.

- in Photo 3, Ocean Sans is what the font is using, which is supposed to be the body text for the old signage system. LTA Identity should be the correct font to be used, although I don't fault them as the two are extremely similar, and LTAI's design is based on OS anyway

CCL Train Fault

Due to a train fault near Nicoll Highway, expect delays on CCL in the Anticlockwise direction (towards HarbourFront)

If the TV screen says train is not for boarding, check with staff at the front of the train for the train's destination.

Update 2.15pm: services largely restored to normal

CCL train services adjusted today

To facilitate testing of CCL Stage 6, trains are travelling the full loop today.

LED maps are disabled to avoid glitches due to current technical limitations, listen for announcements and watch the text displays for travel info.

During peak hours (morning & evening), trains will travel between:

  • Dhoby Ghaut <> HarbourFront, as usual
  • Marina Bay <> HarbourFront, as usual
  • Paya Lebar <> Pasir Panjang short-working trains have been discontinued. This does not affect service frequency.

During off peak hours (afternoon & late night), trains will only travel between

  • Dhoby Ghaut <> Stadium
  • Marina Bay <> HarbourFront
  • Passengers for Dhoby Ghaut should transfer at Stadium or Promenade

More trains are being run and higher frequencies too. There are 113 trains deployed throughout the day, up from the previous 82.

interesting observation about mrt announcements

I've observed an interesting pattern as to when "to" and "towards" are used in the train announcements, and seems like they are never used interchangeably.

"towards" is used to state general direction, usually mentioning the last stop, for example

  • Change at this station for train service towards Dhoby Ghaut. (Promenade)
  • Cross over to Platform F on the left for train service towards the city and Tuas Link. (Tanah Merah)
  • Cross over to Platform B for train service towards Dhoby Ghaut and Marina Bay. (Paya Lebar)

"to" is used to list all stations heading in a specific direction, for example

  • Change at this station for train service to Bayfront and Marina Bay. (Promenade)
  • Cross over to Platform E for train service to Expo and Changi Airport. (Tanah Merah)

idk i find this very interesting and i just have to share it

For context i take the MRT past Promenade and Tanah Merah quite often, and theyre stations where the line splits into different branches, hence these transfer announcements play

"The train approaching Platform A is on the anticlockwise loop, heading towards HarbourFront direction."

"The train approaching Platform B is on the clockwise loop, heading towards Buona Vista direction."

The station mentioned in both the announcement and the platform screen will be the next interchange station, regardless of how close or far it is.

The icon graphic on the platform screens will only show Promenade, Paya Lebar, Bishan, Caldecott, and HarbourFront in the loop.

UPDATE: TRAIN SERVICE FULLY BACK TO NORMAL, FREE BUS SERVICES HAVE CEASED

[UPDATE on the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL), 3 May, at 9.13am]:

On 3 May at about 6.55 am, a signalling fault occurred on the Thomson-East Coast Line. This followed signalling tests carried out by our OEM, Alstom, the night before.

While we reset the system, some trains were held at affected platforms. As a result, there were no train services between Caldecott and Orchard stations. Our engineers are working with Alstom engineers to restore service as quickly as possible.

Free bridging bus services and free regular bus services between Woodlands North and Marina Bay stations were available at designated bus stops along the affected stretch.

Commuters travelling towards the city are advised to use the North-South Line, Downtown Line, or Circle Line.

We apologise for the disruption to your morning commute.
