North Entrance Location?

With the opening of hall 8 I see that they are also opening the north entrance for the first time. Is that just those standard width doors that face out into the park off of hall 5?

Cozy Suites Advanced Booking?

Anybody have experience booking cozy suites one year out? They have some downtown availability listed for next year but I'm wary of having things get cancelled the week before GenCon '27. If anybody booked well in advance how did it go?

Find any hidden gems?

Play or demo anything that surprised you?

For me we really enjoyed 6 Sided Seas for a short 2 player dice game.

Hell of a Deal probably not a hidden gem but it wasn't on my radar and it looks really cool.

Generics in the app?

I was able to buy some event tickets in the app for digital delivery but I don't see a way to purchase generics. Is will call the only option now?

Speed Puzzle Events Take Generics?

Does anybody know if the speed puzzle events take generics or walkups? I was able to get tickets last year but it has been stubbornly sold out this year. I was considering emailing the Ravensburger rep on the event but didn't want to bug them if it was already known. Thanks!

Plays in May

All plays at two player. The full list in no particular order:

  • A Carnivore Did It - Really interesting deduction game
  • Panda Spin - I wasn't sure this would work at 2-players but really enjoyed it. Cool trick taker with a neat twist that adds a lot of strategic losing.
  • Great Western Trail - A classic. Love this game.
  • Great Western Trail Argentina - Liked this one more than the base but love both.
  • Great Western Trail New Zealand - Enjoyed this one too. The wool mechanism is great.
  • Disney Villainous an Introduction to Evil - Won this in a raffle. A decent little card battler but many better games in that space for us. Leaving collection
  • Magic Number 11 - Had high hopes for this one but too random. Leaving collection
  • Oath - Didn't land at 2 players. Too much admin with the clockwork prince and would take a lot of play to reason about what he would be doing. Probably really interesting at a higher player count.
  • London - Love this game. Really interesting engine builder. Not much interaction if that is your thing but a cool puzzle.
  • Moon Colony Bloodbath - Great game. Some randomness but it plays fast enough that the luck of the draw isn't a big drawback for me. Clinging to life at the end is a lot of fun.
  • Trismegistus - I wasn't sure going in but really liked it. I need to look at what they're changing in the new edition but I don't think i need it. This one is a great as-is.
  • Scales of Fate - Unique head to head battle with some interesting bluffing. Enjoyed this quite a bit but I think Pillars of Fate is the better of the two.
  • Shallow Regrets - I had low expectations but this is fun Button Shy game. Not their best work but not the worst either.
  • Tribes of the Wind - Didn't land for us. Not a terribly interesting decision space. Might be slightly better at a higher player count but it is pretty light on choices for the length. Leaving collection
  • Dewan - Much much lighter than expected. Didn't land for us. Leaving collection but bought a mis-printed copy so not sure what we'll be able to do with it.
  • Red North - Interesting card battler / majority game. I enjoyed this at 2 but I expect it would be better at a higher player count. For sure will revisit this one.
  • Toy Battle - Fast playing and a lot of fun. The maps add great variety. Some luck of the draw but this game creates great moments of tension wondering if your opponent has the piece they need.
  • National Economy - A very interesting worker placement tableau builder and optimization game. Just got this to the table at the end of the month so still playing but this is a great one. Not exact an engine builder but if you like engine builders I think you'll like this one. The three decks play quite differently.

For those that have done both would you recommend the Shadows of the Apt series as audiobooks or to be read in print?

I have read many Tchaikovsky's books and enjoyed almost all of them. I have also listened to some as audiobooks. I absolutely adored the Tyrant Philosophers audiobooks. The Final Architecture series didn't land for me as an audiobook (not bad but not at the level of his other work for me) but I think I might have liked it in print.

I'm listening to The Expert Systems brother now and I think I'll avoid that narrator going forward though the story is enjoyable.
