I really tried, American
I’ve never had the best luck flying American.
Mechanical issues, long delays, missed connections.
After Alaskan bought Hawaiian, I realized I now had 450k points I could use on American via the One World Network.
I booked a round trip from SAT to MKE with connections in DFW for only 40k points first class. I was reluctant but couldn’t pass up the deal.
No issues the first leg. Returning home there was some weather in Texas so I was expecting a couple delays but had 2.5 hour layover in DFW so felt confident. First flight is on time, second flight delayed about an hour waiting for the plane to arrive from San Diego. Great, I’ll get some dinner and relax.
Second plane arrives so I head to the gate. 3 minutes before boarding, I get the alert the flight is rescheduled to 5:00am next morning. Speak to a gate agent and they say they had to get a new crew in. Weather happens, delays happen but if we had been alerted earlier arrangements for a different flight or a hotel room could have been made. Now it’s too late.
After sitting for 6 hours overnight, we board at 4:20am. Ready to go but myself and a few other passengers noticed our checked bags were still at another terminal. Get the flight attendant’s attention and ask about it. She says some bags are headed to SAT on a different flight leaving at the same time. Another passenger points out that flight has been canceled and the next SAT flight is several hours later. I shit you not, she says ‘they’ll get there, why do you care what plane it’s on. Or they’ll deliver them to your house.’
Ummm, some people had connections.
So we’re all sitting there pissed and the captain comes on and says we had to wait for some more bags. 75 minutes later they were loaded.
I watched and counted….107 bags were not on the plane.
Better communication and some professional courtesy towards a plane full of people who spent the night in the airport would have gone a long way.
Way to live down to my expectations American.
5 flights over the past couple years….1 missed connection, 9 hour overnight delay in Miami, 1 normal flight, 1 cancelled flight and now this.
