hatham-Kent councillor Rhonda Jubenville is urging residents to submit their concerns about a proposed waste facility and landfill in Dresden directly to the province.

York1 Environmental Waste Solutions has applied to the province to operate a waste transfer and processing facility at an eight-hectare landfill on Irish School Road.

The proposed transfer facility could receive up to 3,000 tonnes of material a day, while the landfill could take up to 1,000 tonnes daily.

Chatham-Kent council remains unanimously opposed to the proposal.

Residents have 15 days from receiving their notice to submit comments to the province.

York1 Environmental Solutions has applied to scale back and environmentally improve its proposed landfill and waste transfer facility in Dresden.

One application to the Ministry of Environment states the modernized waste transfer and processing facility at at 29831 Irish School Road in Dresden would receive a daily maximum of up to 4,000 tonnes per day, down from 7,000 tonnes per day stated in the original plan in 2024.

The coalition is pressing both levels of government to invest in better rail and transit links across Southwestern Ontario.

Report states the lack of direction from Parks Canada has damaged the federal agency locally.

The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 24, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Ken Houston Memorial Arena.

The meeting will be held Wednesday, June 24 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Ken Houston Agricultural Centre, at 1212 North St. in Dresden.

Rino Bortolin, a former Windsor city councillor and friend working on ways the border cities can strengthen their relationship, tells me the Canadian boycott has compelled Detroit colleagues to tell him how much Canada and Canadians mean to them and that living nearby is a big plus, not taken for granted.

“I’ve always described the relationship as being the younger sibling or cousin of the super cool neighbourhood kid, who follows them around,” he told me. “But for the first time ever in my life, I feel like an equal. This has oddly been good for the relationship.”
