I've got an L28et MS3x, COP, etc.. Been on this ecu for a couple years now. I've found TDC with a piston stop and already knew my balancer was a few degrees out of whack. I've always been on the lookout for an aftermarket solid balancer (used) and scored one recently.

I set my old balancer to exactly 0 degrees before I removed it. I made sure the crank didn't move at all as I took it off and put this new one on.

That top mark that is painted white on the balancer is 0 degrees. You can see that it's basically 15 degrees off. This was before I torqued down the bolt, so again I made sure that nothing moved.

Here's the old balancer. You can see the rubber is definitely cracked.

I emailed Pro Products, who makes this new damper to verify that the top mark is 0 degrees. They verified that is correct and sent me this diagram. My balancer doesn't have 2 sets of marks on it, as it's an older model. But you can get the jist of where 0 degrees should be in relation to the key slot:

You can see from this below picture how the mark drifted counter clockwise several degrees

Another thing. I've always had an issue with sync loss events if I went above 28-29 deg at light cruise. I also tried sneaking up on 30 deg at idle just to see what it would do, and it would sync loss every few seconds. But other than that, the car ran great.

If anyone else has megasquirt and is having weird sync loss issues, make sure to check your balancer as it may have spun.

Now I get reset my tooth angle and mess with all my timing tables all over again. But at least I'll know that it's correct
