I just wanted to let you all know I’m safe. I’ve got a lot of resources. I got an order of protection and the judge denied his release. I’m struggling with the trauma of it all. One second I’m okay, the next I’m in panic mode. The state’s attorney is representing me in the criminal case. It’s a long road ahead, but I’m getting through it and doing everything I need to do. I’ll be filing for divorce and full custody.

My husband almost killed me tonight in front of my children. He had been verbally abusive in the past and is an alcoholic, but never physical. I had recently given him an ultimatum that he had to quit drinking or I would file for divorce and get custody of the kids.

He went to a friend’s house, came home inebriated and started insulting me. I had recently been standing up to him as I had reached a breaking point. I never thought he would hurt me physically. I honestly thought I was going to be murdered in front of my children.

He had me in a chokehold and I struggled as much as I could biting him to try and get free while my eight year-old was hitting him, trying to help me, and both my kids were screaming and crying. I screamed “You’re going to kill me,” but he didn’t let go.

Luckily, I was able to get free and call 911. I fought him with everything I had. He tried to flee when I got them on the phone, but they caught him. He tried to run and now he’s in jail, but I’m so afraid that they will let him out, and I will be filing for an order of protection.

I’m still in shock.

EDIT TO UPDATE: thank you so much to everyone that has commented here. I appreciate you all so much. so far he has been charged with aggravated domestic battery strangulation which carries a minimum 60 day sentence in our state.
