Don't get me wrong I love the dramione aspect, but the thing I like more it's the political intrigue, dangers of people pleasing, blind faith and the effects war has on people.
Are there any other book similar to Alchemised in that aspect?
So I have been reading Hell is a place on earth which is a fanfiction from the perspective of one the character from the book Alchemised by SenLinYu. My favorite scenes from this fanfic are the flashback where we see the tensions and causes leading to the civil war we see in the original book.

Are there any books where we don't see the war itself being fought but the timeline of events that caused the war itself.
I love the Inside Out movies, I wish there was something similar that was made for adult topics.
Not actual adaptations of Junji Ito works of course. Something not related to him but that would make think it was made by him.
