Uluru itinerary - am I overdoing it?

We will be in Uluru from October 4-7, part of a month-long trip from the U.S. I want to see Uluru and Kata Tjuta, preferably both with guides. I've have several tours/experiences booked, but I'm worried that I'm overdoing it and I don't want them to be duplicative. I definitely want a guided Uluru tour - either a full base walk or a shorter tour. Should we also do a guided tour of Kata Tjuta (Walpa Gorge) or is that fine to do on our own? We'll have a rental car and are staying at the Desert Gardens.

Here's our tentative itinerary:

October 4:

  • Flight arrives 12:40
  • Afternoon?
    • Visit the Cultural Center?
    • Kata Tjuta on our own?
  • Tali Wiru dinner (booked)

October 5:

October 6:

October 7:

  • Flight at 11:10

I'm also skeptical about riding a Segway around a sacred site - am I being too sensitive?

I'd love any feedback.

Hotels near the airport?

Edit: Thank you all for the advice! You've convinced me that I should stay in the CBD. Thank you especially for the recommendations of hotels near Southern Cross.

----

I'm hoping for a recommendation of a hotel near the airport that's also in a walkable area.

I'm flying into Melbourne in September from the east coast of the U.S. I'm staying for two nights before heading off to Queensland. (I'll be back in Melbourne for more than a week at the end of the trip.)

I'll be coming off 24+ hours of travel. To get over the jet lag I want to be outside as much as possible. But because my departing flight will be in the morning I'd like to stay closer to the airport. Any recommendations for areas near the airport that will have outdoor things to keep me upright and moving in my jet lagged haze?

Thank you, and I'm really excited to see your city!

Itinerary - 4.5 weeks in September-October 2026

I'd love feedback on my itinerary for an upcoming trip. It'll be just me (51W) the first two weeks, my partner (50M) will join me for the second half.

It'll be the first time in Australia for both of us. We're coming from the east coast of the U.S. We both love cities and would like to learn about indigenous culture and art. I also want to see lots of wildlife. We both love food and have no food restrictions. We'd rather not have to drive, since neither of us has ever driven on the left.

This is the itinerary that I put together. I'd love feedback and suggestions!

  • Arrive in Melbourne - two nights solo
  • Hervey Bay/K'gari - three nights solo
    • In K'gari stay at Kingfisher Bay Resort?
    • Do local tours on the island
    • Because of ferry/flight times I will stay one night in Brisbane, likely just at an airport hotel between Hervey Bay and my next stop
  • Airlie Beach/Whitsundays - three nights solo
    • day sailing tour?
    • day snorkel trip, or glass bottom boat?
  • Port Douglas - six nights solo
    • two different reef day trips
    • Daintree
    • Kurunda railway
    • beach time
  • Sydney - eight nights total - three nights solo, five nights with partner
  • Uluru - three nights, both of us
    • is this too much time in Uluru?
    • Is the Sounds of Silence dinner worth it?
  • Melbourne - seven nights, both of us
    • Phillip Island - penguin parade and koala conservation center
    • Great Ocean Road day tour

The Hugh (Midtown East) - Sunday mornings

I'm looking for a space for a small gathering in Midtown East on Sunday, July 19 between about 9 am and 1 pm. Ideally something informal, where people can come and go - around 20 people total.

I like the space at the Hugh (53rd and 3rd). I thiiiiink the space is open on Sunday mornings. Unfortunately only one food vendor is open on Sundays, and not until 11:30 am.

Can anyone confirm if the Hugh is still open Sunday mornings? Since there won't really be food vendors would there be any issues with us bringing food (and cleaning up after ourselves)? It feels wrong to not pay to use the space, but I think the Hugh is a bit of a third space?
