Scam attempt at Grand Indonesia Mall

Yesterday evening I was at Grand Indonesia Mall doing some food shopping for souvenirs. At some point I was approached by 3 people: two men and a woman who, from their accent, seemed Turkish.

One of them asked me for directions (to a place I'm pretty sure doesn't even exist inside the mall), so I told him I didn't know. He then asked if I was from a certain country and started speaking my language while shaking my hand. The other two joined shortly after.

They asked me a few questions: whether I lived in Jakarta, what city I was from, that kind of thing.

At some point they mentioned they were from Dubai and asked me about the rupiah/dollar exchange rate. The guy then showed me his wallet, which was absolutely stuffed with dollars. He then asked if he could first see some rupiah "to see the color," and then some euros "to see what they look like." An objectively nonsensical request. His companion tried to reassure me that there was nothing to worry about and it was just curiosity.

Aside from the fact that it was my last day and I had no cash left anyway, I definitely wouldn't have flashed my money around even if I did. Either way, I played dumb and walked away. I reported it to mall security but there was a bit of a language barrier.

I was wondering if anyone here has come across something similar; honestly didn't expect this to happen. The whole thing felt very random.
