Dating in Jakarta/Indonesia

So I’m a foreigner dating this girl which is Muslim but don’t wear the Hijab, and drink wine sometimes, don’t pray 5 times a day. But she don’t eat pork and I believe she celebrate/practice Ramadan. As a foreigner with no connection to any religion is there something I should know about dating a half religious person, and it being a «casual» Islam follower? And since I don’t live here full time I don’t have infinity time to spend with her.
I’m a bit afraid to ask because religion can often be seen a complex topic and I don’t want to ruin anything between us by asking the wrong thing at the wrong time.

Has Jakarta Changed Since 2019?

I’m half Japanese and half Indonesian, but I’ve lived in Japan my whole life.
From April 2018 to May 2019, I lived in Jakarta to study Indonesian.
After returning to Japan, I started working in a job related to Indonesia. Unfortunately, because of the pandemic, I haven’t been able to visit Jakarta since then.
Lately, I’ve been feeling nostalgic and wondering how much the city has changed since 2019.
The MRT opened about a month before I returned to Japan. Has it helped reduce traffic congestion at all?
I studied Indonesian in East Jakarta and lived in West Bekasi.
I’d love to hear about any changes in Jakarta, or even in the Bekasi area. Thanks!

Tokyo Is Famous for Rush Hour... But Look at Jakarta

Just watched this comparison between Tokyo’s legendary packed trains and Jakarta’s evening rush hour at stations like Duri, Manggarai, Tanah Abang, and Sudirman.

Tokyo is famous for its extreme density and order, but Jakarta’s commuter chaos actually feels surprisingly similar in many ways crowded platforms, shoulder-to-shoulder trains, and thousands of people moving together every day.

What do you think? Is Jakarta’s rush hour as intense as it looks, or have you gotten used to it? How does it compare to other big cities you’ve experienced?

Cafe Culture

Hi Jakarta crew,

I’ll be spending a few weeks in the big smoke and I want to explore the local cafe scene. Can I have some suggestions please. I’d like a variety of classic places and new modern cafe to try. Happy to travel.

I love Toko Kopi Tuku in Cipete Raya and Kopitagram Centang Biru in Kuningan

I know all the chain cafes but I’m looking for unique experiences.

Also I’m interested in checking out House of tugu, which I believe is a hotel, does anyone know if it’s got an open to the public cafe on site?

Thanks heaps Jakarta crew 🙏🏼

Foreigner looking into attending Indonesia Medical School

Hi everyone. I am a student currently studying biochemistry in Singapore but I want to pursue medical school somewhere in Southeast Asia. Out of all the countries in ASEAN, I heard that Indonesia allows foreigners to do attachment and clerkship after med school.

I have been to Indonesia about 5 times (to Jakarta) and I like the environment/culture and I feel like the language doesn’t seem that hard for me to study up on. But my main concern is that, even though I would be learning Indonesian language, I would need to study in an English taught program and some of the programs have 25 years old as an age limit. By the time I apply, I would be around 25-26 so it’s a bit risky. I am also not sure about the job aspects for a foreigner in Indonesia if the foreigner is a local medical graduate and is able to converse in an intermediate level. Is there anyone who can enlighten me about the job searching process after university and if I can even find a job if I don’t have any connections in the medical field as a foreigner.

Sorry I didn’t have enough karma points to post this in r/indonesia

How are the immigration officers at the airport?

Our housekeeper of 16 years is going back home after 10 years of being away.

I would like to gift her some high cost items to take on her carry on luggage but I heard from some people that the airport officers treat domestic workers poorly when they come back from a long leave and that they may cause trouble for her if they see her with the items

Can anyone here confirm or deny? I do not want her to get in trouble 🙏🏻

Connection time at Jakarta Airport

I am planning to book a Garuda flight from Yogyakarta to Jakarta that arrives at the Jakarta airport at 3pm. I would be booking an Emirates flight from Jakarta to Dubai that will depart at 5:40pm. So, there is a 2 hours 40 min gap between the two flights. Would this time be sufficient to make the connection?
I am booking these two tickets separately. So, I would have to collect my baggage after the Garuda flight lands and then re check in at Emirates check-in. I believe both flights operate out of Terminal 3.
Is 2 hours 40 min gap sufficient or would I need to plan the Yogyakarta-Jakarta on an earlier flight?

Visiting Jakarta for the first time

Hi everyone!

I'm coming to Jakarta from India in December for the bts concert, and it'll be my first time visiting Jakarta.

I'll be staying in an airbnb next to swissote! living mega kuningan for a few days and have 2 full days (24th and 25th) to explore the city.
I'm definitely a mall/shopping person (so Grand Indonesia is already on my list e), but I also don't want to spend my whole trip just shopping. I'd love to experience the city properly too.

I'm into skyline views, observatory decks, artsy spaces, fun activities, art workshops, hidden gems and good vegan food. So far I've been looking at places like Museum MACAN, M Bloc, MOJA Museum, Senayan Park, PIK and Thamrin Nine Observatory.

For people who live here if you only had 2 days, what would you personally pick? Which places are actually worth it and which ones can I skip?

Also, how's my airbnb area at night? Is it comfortable to walk around? And what's Jakarta like during Christmas - weather, crowds, any festive events?

Would really appreciate any tips or personal recommendations.

Thank you!

Best Buffet in Jakarta?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for the best all-you-can-eat buffet in Jakarta. Ideally, it should have a big selection across different cuisines while still offering good quality rather than just quantity.

Thanks in advance!🙏🏻

Looking to buy gift(s) for my girlfriend who lives in Jakarta, I am UK based

Hi All,

Apologies if this question has been asked numerous times but I couldn't find a lot of information on it. I live in the UK and I'm looking to get my gf some gifts for her birthday. I have ideas on what to get but I was just wondering is there any known delivery services in Jakarta or shops which can deliver locally but accept international payments, through Paypal or any other services?

I've seen posts on here saying to not send stuff to Indonesia due to custom charges and the recipient having to pay the costs which I do not want at all obviously.

Is this something feasible to do, do you think it would be better to just send money and allow it to be spent that way, rather than gifts?

What are good private group activities in Jakarta?

Hello people of Indonesia, specifically Jakarta. I'm here to ask, are there like any private group activities that are fun or interesting in Jakarta? What I mean by private group is like your group only, so like a group of friends, and that friend group only, not public. So basically, things like Karaoke, Escape rooms, those things. Now the question is, are there any fun things or anything at all similar to those where I get to experience something with my friend group? Of course, it doesn't have to exclusively be just us; for example, it can be a public activity, but it's divided into groups, and my friends and I still get to be together.

(Note: We are not by any means trying to avoid people or being antisocial; it's just that we find more fun and comfort in doing our little inside jokes and all. )

For reference, we've tried:

-Karaoke

-Escape Rooms

-Tabletop RPGs

-Darts

-Billiards

Things we would like to try:
-Pottery Class
-Cooking Class

Scam attempt at Grand Indonesia Mall

Yesterday evening I was at Grand Indonesia Mall doing some food shopping for souvenirs. At some point I was approached by 3 people: two men and a woman who, from their accent, seemed Turkish.

One of them asked me for directions (to a place I'm pretty sure doesn't even exist inside the mall), so I told him I didn't know. He then asked if I was from a certain country and started speaking my language while shaking my hand. The other two joined shortly after.

They asked me a few questions: whether I lived in Jakarta, what city I was from, that kind of thing.

At some point they mentioned they were from Dubai and asked me about the rupiah/dollar exchange rate. The guy then showed me his wallet, which was absolutely stuffed with dollars. He then asked if he could first see some rupiah "to see the color," and then some euros "to see what they look like." An objectively nonsensical request. His companion tried to reassure me that there was nothing to worry about and it was just curiosity.

Aside from the fact that it was my last day and I had no cash left anyway, I definitely wouldn't have flashed my money around even if I did. Either way, I played dumb and walked away. I reported it to mall security but there was a bit of a language barrier.

I was wondering if anyone here has come across something similar; honestly didn't expect this to happen. The whole thing felt very random.

Accommodation in Jakarta

Hi everyone!

I’m reaching out for some help because I’m planning a university exchange in Jakarta, Indonesia, and I want to get a head start on exploring my housing options. I’ve seen a few Reddit posts on this topic, but I wanted to specifically ask for your opinion on Airbnb versus Travelio—which one would you recommend? I was under the impression that the platforms were quite similar, but if you had to choose one, which would it be? Accommodation is cheaper on Travelio, but I’ve seen quite a few negative comments about the platform; at the same time, I’m worried about last-minute host cancellations on Airbnb. Also, could you tell me how to avoid scams? Are the positive reviews on these platforms generally reliable?

Thanks for your help!

Jumlah channel tv antena yang berkurang? [details in body text]

Update tanggal 27 Juni 2026 jam 20.43 (UTC+7).
