AppleCare One (US): How do international users handle region-locked App Store apps?

I have AppleCare One covering my iPhone, MacBook, and Apple Watch, so I'd like to keep my primary Apple Account in the U.S.

Occasionally, though, I need to download an app that's only available in another country's App Store (not necessarily Indonesia—I'm asking about the general situation).

I've read that changing the Apple Account/App Store country may cancel AppleCare One and issue a prorated refund, so I'd rather avoid experimenting if that's true.

For those who have actually dealt with this:

  • Do you simply create a second Apple Account for the other country's App Store while keeping your primary U.S. account for iCloud and AppleCare One?
  • Is that considered the standard long-term solution, or is there a better approach?

I'd especially appreciate replies from people who have firsthand experience with AppleCare One.

Is it safe to switch the US address to a Southeast Asia address after 1.5 years abroad long-term? Or keep a US address (mailing/billing/both)?

Hi everyone,

I need some advice specifically regarding how Bank of America (BofA) handles compliance and address updates for long-term expats.

My Background: I am a non-US citizen and a US university alumnus. I hold a valid US SSN, an active BofA checking/savings setup, and a couple of BofA credit cards. I have already been living back home in Southeast Asia for the last 1.5 years, and my plan is to remain here indefinitely long-term. Up until now, I have simply left my old US residential address on file.

My Questions:

  1. Is it safe to officially update my BofA profile to my permanent international address in SEA now? Will Bank of America automatically trigger a compliance review, freeze, or force-close my checking/savings accounts or credit lines upon seeing a foreign primary address update?
  2. Billing vs. Mailing address split: If BofA technically permits foreign addresses, is it safer to update both the residential/billing and mailing fields to my international address? Or should I keep a US address on file for billing/compliance purposes and only use the foreign address for physical card mailings?
  3. The US Address Alternative: If inputting a foreign address carries too much risk under BofA's modern AML/KYC algorithms, what is the safest way to maintain a US address indefinitely? Do virtual mailboxes (CMRAs) work seamlessly with BofA's backend, or do they eventually get flagged as commercial properties?

I want to avoid triggering automated compliance flags or sudden account freezes while entirely overseas, as trying to resolve a locked BofA account or verifying identity from abroad is an absolute nightmare.

I would love to hear from any international alumni or expats who have successfully maintained their Bank of America accounts long-term from abroad. What is the safest way to handle this?

Thanks!

Using Apple Card & Apple Savings long-term abroad (1.5 years in SE Asia) — Real risk of sudden algorithmic freeze?

Hey everyone,

I wanted to gauge the real-world risk of an unexpected account freeze or restriction on the Apple Card, but specifically the Apple Savings account, when used while living long-term internationally.

I’m a US university alumnus currently living in Southeast Asia (anchored in one country). I’ve been using my Apple Card out here consistently for about a year and a half now with absolutely zero issues. My usage is mostly recurring transactions like monthly AppleCare+ and iCloud+, along with local point-of-sale transactions here and there.

My operational setup is very clean:

  • Payments: Funded via my Apple Savings account (alternatively, Bank of America checking).
  • Billing Address: Tied to a valid US residential address (a friend's place near my old university campus).
  • Phone Number: Active US mobile number with Tello (real cellular roaming, not a blocked VoIP service).

I see quite a few horror stories on Reddit about digital nomads getting their accounts locked or restricted out of nowhere with people saying Goldman Sachs banned them for spending entirely overseas. However, my experience has been completely smooth for 18 months straight.

For those who have lived abroad or dual-nested long-term (1+ years in a single foreign country) while actively keeping a balance in Apple Savings:

  1. Have you ever faced sudden algorithmic freezes or random review locks on your Apple Savings account? I am significantly more worried about the Savings account than the credit card. I'm paranoid that Goldman Sachs will suddenly flag/freeze the Savings account simply by seeing a Southeast Asian IP address logging into the Wallet app to check balances or initiate transfers long-term.
  2. Is the automated system actually okay with localized and consistent international telemetry once a pattern is established, or am I just flying under the radar? Does the system eventually recognize this as a normal baseline or does checking an Apple Savings account from abroad always carry a high risk of an automated fraud lock?

Would love to hear your real-world experiences, especially if you've been managing an Apple Savings balance for multiple years outside the US. Thanks!
