Blok M to Soekarno-Hatta bus is jumping from Rp3,500 to Rp15,000

The current ultra-cheap airport bus from Blok M will rise to Rp15,000 starting 1 September.

Took the trip to Terminal 2 to see how it actually feels and whether the new fare is still worth it compared to DAMRI and the airport train.

Would you still take it at the new price?

Jakarta is not just traffic a calm Sunday in Senayan & SCBD

Most people still picture endless congestion when they think of Jakarta.

But spend an afternoon and evening walking through Senayan and SCBD, and a different city shows up: Hutan Kota GBK full of families, the wide paths around Gelora Bung Karno, the lake and skywalk at Senayan Park, and the quiet glow of SCBD after dark.

Green spaces, public life, and modern skyline sitting side by side.

Here’s a short cinematic walk through one of Jakarta’s most pleasant districts:

Curious what other corners of the city still surprise people.

The Quiet Engineering Behind Jakarta’s World-Record Bus Network

Most people know TransJakarta as the bus that somehow costs only Rp 3,500. Fewer realise it is the longest Bus Rapid Transit system on the planet — over 264 kilometres of dedicated corridors, feeder routes, and last-mile services that move more than a million people every day

This short documentary walks through the parts that rarely make the headlines: the Rupiah-per-Kilometre payment model that removed the old race-for-passengers culture, the heavy public subsidies that keep fares almost symbolic, the role of Microtrans in the narrow kampung streets, and the city’s push toward a fully electric fleet by 2030.

It is less a travel video and more a quiet look at how a megacity actually keeps itself moving.

Curious to hear from those who ride it daily — what still works well, and what still frustrates

Tokyo Is Famous for Rush Hour... But Look at Jakarta

Just watched this comparison between Tokyo’s legendary packed trains and Jakarta’s evening rush hour at stations like Duri, Manggarai, Tanah Abang, and Sudirman.

Tokyo is famous for its extreme density and order, but Jakarta’s commuter chaos actually feels surprisingly similar in many ways crowded platforms, shoulder-to-shoulder trains, and thousands of people moving together every day.

What do you think? Is Jakarta’s rush hour as intense as it looks, or have you gotten used to it? How does it compare to other big cities you’ve experienced?

Jakarta Rush Hour vs Tokyo Rush Hour A Comparison from Someone Who Experienced Both

Sorry for cross posting, but I thought this might be interesting for r/TokyoTravel

I made a side-by-side comparison of rush hour in Tokyo (the famous super packed trains everyone knows) and Jakarta’s evening commute at busy stations like Manggarai, Tanah Abang, Duri, and Sudirman.

Even though the systems are very different, the energy and density during peak hours feel surprisingly similar in some ways.

Curious what people who ride Tokyo trains daily think does Jakarta’s rush hour remind you of anything here?

I Didn't Expect Jakarta's 499th Anniversary to Look Like This 🇮🇩

Jakarta really showed up for its 499th anniversary celebration.

From packed MRT stations with the special Rp1 fare to thousands of people filling Bundaran HI and the Sudirman area at night — the atmosphere was incredible. Lights, crowds, live performances, and that special city energy.

If you were there or just want to see what it looked like, here’s my full vlog from the night:

How was your experience during the anniversary events? Share below! 👇

I Rode All of Jakarta's Public Transport for Just 1 Rupiah! 🇮🇩

For Jakarta's 499th anniversary, LRT, TransJakarta, and MRT were all only Rp1. I challenged myself to travel from LRT Summarecon Mall all the way to MRT Lebak Bulus using the three different systems.

A trip that usually costs around Rp20,000+ only cost me 3 Rupiah total. Full review and real experience:

Did any of you get to ride for Rp1? Share your experiences

I Compared Jakarta's MRT/LRT/KRL to New York Subway – Here's What Surprised Me

Hi r/jakarta,

I made a detailed comparison between our public transport system (MRT, LRT, KRL) and the New York Subway based on real daily commuting experience.

Covered things like cleanliness, crowd management, station facilities, women-only carriages, priority seating, and overall passenger experience.

What do you think? Do you agree with the comparison? Which parts feel accurate or missing?

Inside Jakarta Fair 2026 – Southeast Asia’s Largest Consumer Expo

Hi r/jakarta and anyone interested in Jakarta’s big event

I just went to the opening of Jakarta Fair 2026 at JIExpo Kemayoran Southeast Asia’s biggest consumer expo.

From the massive crowds and great deals to the motor show, food stalls, and evening atmosphere, it was quite an experience. If you’re planning to visit, here’s a full walking tour from arrival by KRL all the way through the halls.

Would love to hear your thoughts or tips if you’ve been already!

Hi r/nycrail, here's what evening rush hour looks like in Jakarta, Indonesia

Thought you guys might get a kick out of this here's what rush hour looks like in Jakarta, Indonesia after dark

We’re talking packed platforms, endless queues just to reach the escalator at Duri Station, and full-on commuter chaos on the KRL trains. No AC on some lines, zero personal space, but everyone just powers through it.

Compare this to the NYC subway during rush hour and let me know who wins the madness?
