I’m looking to do some scuba diving when I am in Indonesia. I decided on Komodo quite simply on the basis that I want to. I am a student and not swimming in money but safety comes first, so I’d rather have fewer dives that are safe and a lot of fun than more dives that are less safe or no dives at all. I have an AOWD and a nitrox certification, but I am by no means what I would call an experienced diver. I’m not exactly inexperienced, but there’s a difference between “experienced” and “not inexperienced”. I have done 37 dives in a wide range of conditions, and I generally know what I am doing, but there’s a lot I can still learn. I’m hoping to do some very nice dives while I am in Indonesia.

I also live in a city. 11 September this year will be new moon and I’m kind of banking on getting a spectacular night sky if I am on a boat in the middle of nowhere, because I want that too and I could be killing two birds with one stone.

After a bit of research I came across Scuba Republic. They offer a 3D2N trip from 10-12 September and all in all that seems to be pretty much exactly what I am looking for. Has anyone here done a trip with them before? How was it? Can you recommend? How much money did you end up spending in total per person?

Ich möchte jemandem nicht aus Frankfurt etwas mitbringen, etwas lokales, das man aber auch teilen kann. Ich hatte an einen Frankfurter Kranz gedacht. Was ich mitbringe müsste allerdings vegan sein, daher die Frage: kennt hier jemand eine Konditorei oder Bäckerei, die einen leckeren veganen Frankfurter Kranz macht? Gibt’s so etwas überhaupt?

Ich weiß, das ist eine super komische Frage, aber ich erklär sie gerne:

Ich wohne in Frankfurt. Ich habe vor ein paar Wochen ein Teleskop über Kleinanzeigen gekauft und es auch abgeholt. Allerdings war das nur das Teleskop, ohne Stativ. War ein guter Deal, also habe ich es gemacht. Das Teleskop braucht eine Montierung einer gewissen Stärke. Das kostet ebenfalls viel, also habe ich weiter bei Kleinanzeigen gesucht, damit ich vielleicht nicht nochmal 350€ für das Stativ ausgeben muss. Ich bin Student, das mit dem Geld ist also immer so eine Frage.

Jetzt habe ich genau die Montierung, die ich brauche, fast ungenutzt gefunden. In Freiburg. Ich habe dem Verkäufer ein ganz freches Angebot gemacht, und der Verkäufer hat akzeptiert, wenn ich es “zeitnah” abhole. Also im Zweifel dieses Wochenende.

Ich würde mir normal das Firmenauto meines Vaters leihen, weil ich dann keinen Sprit bezahle, aber das Auto ist mit meinen Eltern bis in etwa 14 Tagen im Urlaub, sodass ich es mit diesem Auto frühestens am 13.7. holen könnte. Es gibt noch ein zweites Auto, da bezahle ich den Sprit aber selbst, und das wäre bei bei der Distanz so viel, dass der Effekt des frechen Angebotes quasi verpufft.

Je nachdem, was das Teil wiegt, könnte ich mit dem Deutschlandticket holen gehen. Dauert halt ewig, aber gut, ist dann halt so. Schön wäre das, auch mit Blick auf die Temperaturen am Sonntag, sicher nicht. Edit: 25kilo :D mit dem Zug ist es also möglich, aber eher unlustig, zumindest mit dem Deutschlandticket. Vielleicht wäre eine ICE-Verbindung ja preislich akzeptabel machbar, das würde aber natürlich trotzdem kosten. Ihr seht das Dilemma.

Daher die Frage: finde ich hier jemanden, der mir ganz ganz lieber Weise helfen und das Teil abholen und irgendwie im Keller oder Gartenschuppen oder auf dem Dachboden lagern würde, bis ich am 13.7. (ist ein Montag) den Firmenwagen meines Vater leihen und das abholen kommen kann? Als Aufwandsentschädigung könnte ich ein bisschen Geld oder einen Kasten Äppler oder etwas in der Form anbieten, und wenn ich da niemanden finde, dann bekomme ich das am Sonntag schon irgendwie hin, aber ich dachte, ich frage einfach mal. Vielleicht hab ich ja Glück und es findet sich jemand, der mir da hilft, ein bisschen mehr Zeit zu haben, bis ich nach Freiburg kommen muss. Den Verkäufer würde ich natürlich im Voraus bezahlen, das finanzielle Risiko trage also allein ich.

Ich hoffe, es ist okay, so etwas hier zu fragen. Ich will niemandem was verkaufen oder sonst irgendwelche Geschäfte hier abwickeln, sondern suche einfach Hilfe und dachte, ich frage mal.

Edit: Vielen vielen Dank für eure zahlreichen und super lieben Angebote, das für mich zu machen. Ich habe jetzt noch nicht weiter reagiert, weil ich noch auf eine Antwort des Verkäufers warte, dass auch er das so mitmachen würde, und dass ich ihn per Überweisung oder PayPal bezahlen darf. Das ist mir sehr wichtig, weil ich überhaupt nicht will, dass da jemand in Vorkasse geht oder so, ich will natürlich, dass das Risiko bei mir liegt und das bitte auch allen klar ist. Nur muss ich gerade einfach auf die Antwort des Verkäufers warten, bis ich adäquat auf die vielen freundlichen Angebote reagieren kann.

I’m looking to travel to Indonesia for a few weeks in September. It’s not going to be a pure dive holiday, but I would like to dedicate some time to diving. I am looking to spend a few days around Komodo to dive. Many of the dive shops and liveaboards I have found in previous posts here are closed by now, so I figured I’d ask here.

I can’t spent a ton of money, but naturally I am prepared to spend enough to be safe and have a good time. I’d rather spend less time diving than penny-pinch and do something stupid. My question is the following: for a three to five day tour that is somewhat affordable around Komodo, which dive shops and which liveaboards would you actually recommend?

I am not super experienced, but not super inexperienced either. I have 37 dives, am AOW certified and also have a nitrox qualification. I have also kept up with my diving yearly, in order to keep practice. All this to say that I am not experienced, but I know what I am doing.

This year I had a hard time picking a place of the many I want to see. In the end I took the “safe” option for a solo traveller (in terms of how much flexibility and options I will have at the destination) and booked the mainstream option to Indonesia. I have never been to Indonesia. I’m excited to explore the country. There are a few things I want to see, and I am happy to do my own research for those. However, I do have this one longing, which is to see a proper night sky again some time. It’s been actual years since I have seen the Milky Way. I miss it. It’s an incredibly humbling experience and I want that again.

I am aware that Indonesia might not be the number one choice of places to go for that. I was looking at Kyrgyzstan or Mongolia but ultimately decided that those two destinations are best done with a travel partner.

So my question is this: is there a place in Indonesia where I would get a good chance of very little to no light pollution, and if so, where? I would like to include that in my planning.

I have three weeks in Indonesia and I’m going in September. I’d be grateful for any advice I could get here :)
