do some notes sound out of tune to you or is it just me? the C sounds a little flat to me in the beginning and the last C definitely sounds higher. what is your technique for playing the perfect harmonics (in tune and clarity)?

the hilary hahn sound

what makes hilary hahn’s sound so powerful and recognisable is her solid contact point on the strings. the bow NEVER leaves the string unless required by the music, which is why she always produces such a focused sound. this is also something most good teachers recommend. furthermore, her pinky is ALWAYS on the bow even when she’s playing at the tip, unlike some other soloists (i just think its a good habit to build and keep) and she must have worked with so much discipline. i think she has the cleanest and the most robust technique, definitely something to aspire to. her discipline, best practices, and good habits absolutely show when she’s on stage.

also, i have hardly seen her play that close to the fingerboard as some other soloists do to experiment with color. i wonder how that affects their projection in big halls.

i have never seen her play live but will i be right in saying that she must be the kind of soloist whose sound travels the furthest (as compared to other soloists) in the hall because of her technique?

that was all about her right hand. now what i’ve been wondering about is her left hand and how does one really master intonation as well as hilary? i means thats the goal, really. any thoughts?

Amy Beach wrote this for Miss Maud Powell. I wonder if they had a romantic relationship (because this piece sounds so full of love). Does anyone know?

some of my thoughts as i practice mozart

i try to balance both “technical” and “musical” thoughts, prioritising technique and let the music and story speak for itself. also i have been working on avoiding unnecessary thoughts and impulses. having the score infront is a must i feel. what are your thoughts when you play/practice/perform?
