Can someone explain this to me?
Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu
This is truly a bit embarrassing to ask about on Reddit. Explaination: I don't have any adults in my life who are salafi who could explain this to me properly, and they also haven't yet gotten to explaining finances much to me since I'm still young. I have a relatively good understanding on finances when it comes to what a halal job/income would be, how to spend, how to save, how to give zakah and who has to give it. I grew up pretty financially aware, so that isn't really an issue.
What I have been thinking about for ages is bank accounts.
Most jobs nowadays pay through bank accounts, not directly money into your hand. If a bank offers riba-based loans (but you do not take them nor engage with them in any way) is it permissible to have an account in such a bank? All of the banks in my area do offer riba, so I've been a bit worried about this for quite a while now even if I still can't legally have a bank account at all.
