My favourite messages to receive when I start a sit for a new client.

Shy? Her?

She’s the sweetest, softest, chattiest cat i’ve ever had the pleasure of sitting for! I’ve only been here for 6 hours, and she’s already all snuggled up 🥹. Going to be a great 18 days.

Genuinely how do I start studying?

Hey guys, I need some serious help on how to study. Point. Blank. Period.

I’m 21 and have been officially diagnosed around 3 months ago with combined type. I’ve known my whole life I’ve had it, but finally pushed to get a diagnosis because I have started uni this year, after swearing I never would. I’ve always absolutely despised school, like I would do the bare minimum in everything just to get a passing grade and all assignments would be late and I wouldn’t study whatsoever. Well, unfortunately that does not work with uni.

I’ve finished Sem 1 and passed all my classes, but the class I hate the most (bio), I literally only passed it by 4 points. I left all my modules till the day before the exam and had to cram like my life depended on it. I really don’t want to do that again this semester because it made my life a living hell and I had a breakdown every other day about it.

My issue is that I genuinely cannot get myself to study and I don’t know how to. I am on 60mg of Vyvanse right now, which was upped from 40mg. I felt absolutely nothing on the 40mg which was why I went up to the 60mg, and for the first few days, it genuinely felt like it helped. I didn’t have to walk around all the time at work, I could sit down and actually do what i needed to do. But now, I can’t feel it at all anymore.

When I need to study, I will turn my phone off and open my ipad and laptop but I genuinely cannot get myself to start no matter what. It’s the most frustrating thing ever. I know the repercussions of me not studying, and this is genuinely the only career path I want, but I cannot start at all. It feels like an invisible wall is infront of me and I can’t get past it. I want to study so so so bad but it’s just so difficult.

What makes it worse is the way the uni content is delivered. My mind cannot process or understand it. It’s so so so many 10-40min videos of the lecturer going over a powerpoint which is just dot points, and discussing everything, but I can’t understand it. I can’t process things from someone speaking to me. To make it even worse, I can’t take notes and listen at the same time. I’ll go to write something important down, then I hear the lecturer speaking again and I instantly forget what I was writing. I don’t know what to do at all.

I’ve had an appointment with my uni and have an education plan, but they can’t change the way the content is delivered. I can’t learn like this because I cannot understand it. I need things written down direct and exact, with no waffle. I try to read textbooks, and I still can’t understand them because of all the waffle and random filling words.

Genuinely how can I get past this and start to study? I’ve tried pasting the lecture slides into ai, and it helps cover the content on the slides but obviously not what the lecturer talks about, which is the most important part.

Has anyone else experienced this and has any ideas on how to help? I’ll genuinely try absolutely anything. I need to study. I want to study. This is the only career path I want, but I just struggle so so so much.

Thanks for reading my little rant/cry for help.

Written from my bathroom floor, after staring at the blank screens of my ipad and laptop for the past hour.

TL/DR: Can’t study at all even though I want to. Also can’t understand the way class content is delivered and need help.

Independent Sitters - do you have your own website?

Pretty much title -

For everyone who operates independently and has their own business (no third-party platforms), do you have your own website? Why/why not?

I’m trying to figure out whether it’s worth paying for one.

Had my first bad meet and greet - rant

This happened pretty much a month ago but i just stumbled across the screenshots again and wanted to share.

I received a last minute booking request for the weekend through MadPaws. I do have my own business but I still operate through the app for when I have free time and want some extra money. The sit was booked for 3 dogs (important). 2 small poodles mixes and 1 border collie, it was outside of my typical service area (40 min drive away) but i thought why not! Extra money is extra money.

I arrive to the house a couple mins earlier than our scheduled time and knock on the door and get no reply. I also send a quick message. I have a 15 min grace period for meet and greets, which is listed in my bio so I go sit in my car and wait.

She ends up replying saying that her little sister was there and would let me in. I was about to message and say to arrange a different time since I wasn’t comfortable with that but then her sister opens the door and just stands there. So I go inside and am met with the 2 poodle mixes jumping up on me and the border collie is at the back door. Then I also see… 5 really young puppies. I ask how old they are and she said 6-7wks old and they are the poodle mixes babies. I ask if they are going to be staying for the booking and she’s like “yep 😁”.

I immediately message the booker because not only is that 4 pups over what I allow, I also don’t accept bookings for dogs under 6 months on madpaws because they require so much more care. I ask the sister when she will be coming home and she says “oh not till 5, she’s at work”. What? Why would someone schedule a meet and greet for a time that they aren’t even going to be home for??

I say goodbye and go home. She then messages me saying that 2 or 3 puppies will be there and she wants to pay for them off the app.

That. is. still. over. my. limit. of. 4.

I send my next messages and decline the booking to which she replies with “Actually only 4 dogs will be there. So you are incorrect”. Sorry? Did she literally not just say 2-3 puppies will be there too???

Anyways, this goes back and forth for a bit and I end up getting in contact with madpaws support and they pretty much just say “you’ve declined the sit but it’s best to keep replying so it doesn’t effect your response rate”. Great.

She continues to absolutely bombard me with messages and I keep reiterating that I will not be taking on this sit!

You can read the rest in the messages. I end up contacting support again and they say that they will make note on her profile and if this happens to someone else they will remove her account.

What makes this worse, is that she is also a sitter! She should know that 1. you can’t take extra animals not added to the booking and 2. puppies, especially ones that young require so so much care so how does “they are tiny” change anything????

Genuinely was just so dumbfounded by this whole ordeal.

Help with reactivity on walks!

Hey guys, I was just wanting some advice for dealing with my girls reactivity to anything with wheels (bikes, prams, skateboards, ect.) and other dogs. She’s a kelpie x border collie and will be turning 8 in Nov.

She’s genuinely the smartest and sweetest dog I’ve ever met and I’ve recently taught her heel, focused heel, to go through my legs and walk with me, touch, look at me, and a lot more obedience skills but as soon as we are off the driveway, it’s like she’s never learnt them.

Now here’s the issue, if we walk past anything with wheels (especially bikes), she will immediately lunge and gutturally growl as if trying to murder them. If we walk past another dog it’s not as bad but she will pull to get to them, even getting on her hind legs and coughing from the flat collar. I don’t let her interact with other dogs as she usually approaches with “assertive posture” which isn’t always taken well. With her getting older and joint problems becoming a higher risk, I really want to try get it under control, especially the lunging at bikes part.

I’ve tried a halti with her and again it’s great in the house and in our yard but as soon as we are on a walk she gets what I like to call “steel neck” and won’t respond to it at all. I’ve tried to bring higher value treats and her favourite toys to try get her attention but nothing seems to work.

Another issue is that she’s the family dog, so I’m unfortunately the only one actively training her. Ideally I would invest in a professional trainer but i’m a full-time uni student and no one else is willing to pay for it.

Has anyone else dealt with something similar to this? Any advice at all is appreciated!

Advice for future sit

Hey, I just wanted some advice on how to handle a hypothetical situation for a future sit.

I’ll be pet sitting for a coworker in a couple months for her two rotties and we had our first meet & greet today. All went extremely well and I was just asking the typical questions and one was if they ever get into fights with each other and long story short, they have on occasion.

She said the last fight they had was in December but they are proper fights with blood drawn and she had gotten bitten while trying to break it apart. It is believed this had happened because the elder one is quite ill and the younger one is quite brawny and tries to assert dominance.

Pretty much just wanting advice on what to do if this were to hypothetically happen during the sit as I haven’t had to deal with it before.

I do have insurance but I still do not want to risk a bite by dragging them apart as she did (she mentioned it was unsuccessful anyway).

Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated!

Also want to mention, I am completely comfortable around the dogs and am not scared of them, just worried about what could happen. It will be a live-in sit at her house.
