Where can I find a freeform sapphire/ruby?

Hi all! I’ve been looking for a cherry-colored Freeform sapphire/ruby for a custom project I want to have made. I keep seeing garnets and tourmaline, but it seems they are not durable enough for everyday wear.

I reached out to John Dyer, is there anyone else that sources/ cuts (ideally) natural sapphires that might have something in either purplish/reddish/orangish colors? Even better if I can have the jewelry made by the same person. (:

Looking for something about 4x6mm, and my budget for the stone is $1200.

Thank you!

just started watching this show

I never thought GoT would be my thing with how much everyone talked about the abuse and gore and confusing story lines, but my boyfriend convinced me to start it a month ago. “We’ll just watch a couple episodes and we can stop if it’s not your thing”.

We’ve been watching 2-3 episodes a day because I just HAVE TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS. Every story line is so compelling. The characters are so lovable and despicable. Everyone has strong morals and then they’re immediately thrown out the window or taken to the extremes. The end of season one was INSANE. I can’t even imagine how fun the watch parties must have been back in the day.

I’ve grown to just adoreeee the Starks and want the North to be liberated so badly. I just finished season 3 last night and my face was wet before I even realized I was crying. Tywin Lannister, count your fucking days. I went to bed upset. I woke up still upset.

Fuck this show. I can’t wait to start season 4.

My sapphire collection is off to a great start!

I’ve been obsessed with sapphires forever, but recently decided to start collecting them! This community has been amazing, and I’ve learned SO much about sapphire origins, synthetics vs naturals, and different cuts. I’m not sure if this is normal or if I’m just infatuated with my first gems, but I just can’t stop holding them and admiring the color zoning.

The synthetic is a ‘rare’ 4.25ct Maldives sapphire with a silky blue inclusion from u/geindreausgemstones. It glows beautifully under every type of light source, and looks so magical. I was so surprised that it doesn’t react to light and “black out” the way typical sapphires do.

My teal parti sapphire is a gorgeous 2.24 ct from Madagascar that I can’t waitttt to turn into jewelry.
It’s more lime-green under indoor fluorescent lights, in direct sunlight it turns a smoky-gray, and in the shade it has the most beautiful teal blue-green I’ve ever seen. I’m u fortunately not crazy about how the pavilion was cut, so I’m working with a talented lapidary from Reddit to have it precision-cut next month.

I just wanted to share a side-by-side comparison in case anyone is wondering what synthetic and natural sapphires look like next to each other! They’re both really beautiful and special in their own ways, and I’m really looking forward to learning more and growing my collection. (:

Re-Cut recommendations?

Hello! I made a post recently asking for advice about an absolute eye candy parti-sapphire I couldn’t stop thinking about!

Well… I got it! I am smitten with how beautiful the green and teal complement each other and can’t wait to turn this into a stunning piece of jewelry.

I got a great deal on it because the pavilion doesn’t have the best cut, so I’d love to do it justice if it’s possible and get her re-cut! I have no idea where to begin when it comes to finding someone to do that; I’ve reached out to a few lapidaries to see about re-cutting, but it seems like almost no one offers this? I’d ideally love a concave or starbrite cut (last pic), but I’m not sure if that’s possible with my stone. If anything, I just want to get the facets cleaned up and fix the ‘sink hole’ it currently has.

Current dimensions are 7.73x7.70x4.79 mm, and 2.24cts

My questions are:

- is there anyone in this community known for high quality re-cuts?
- what should I expect this to cost (USD)? It would definitely be worth it, I’d just like an estimated ballpark so I can budget
- would a concave/ starbrite cut be possible? (reference in the last pic)
- how much weight/ diameter would you expect it to lose? I care about diameter more than cts, but I mostly just want it to look nicer!
-how would I go about getting it re-certified with GIA? Is that something a lapidary could also do so I don’t have to mail it multiple times/places?

Thank you all so much! You’ve all been incredibly helpful, and I’m so happy with this gem!

Thoughts on this sapphire?

I’ve been looking for a teal green parti sapphire for about a year now and would love to know what the community thinks before pulling the trigger on this one! I’ve mostly been looking at Montana and Australian sapphires, but this one is from Madagascar. It’s unheated, GIA certified, 2.3cts 7.3 x 4.8mm, and $1400.

Does the cut look okay? Is there anything specific I should ask the seller, other than a picture of it in natural and indoor lighting?

Hello fellow gemstone lovers!

I’ve been searching for a sapphire for about a year to turn into a ring for myself, and I’m starting to think I might be too picky to ever find the right one. I’ve already bought two natural sapphires, and both ended up being way duller/darker than advertised, so I returned them.

Recently, I found a lab sapphire that I LOVE. It’s almost what I’ve been searching for (not parti- but does have multiple hues!), and it’s larger than anything I could afford if it were natural.

I keep hesitating because I really value the uniqueness and natural history of earth-formed sapphires, and I’m worried I might regret going with something synthetic without the “story”.

Attached photos:

Pics 1-3: My dream sapphire (I haven’t found anything similar with a good cut/shape/color/price in a year, I know the demand is crazy right now too so prices are higher.)

Pics 4-6: The lab sapphire I’m looking at

What I’m looking for: a blue/green parti sapphire around 1.5 to 2.5 ct, with visible color, and budget of about $2k.

The lab sapphire is $500 and 4 ct, which makes me feel like I should just go for it. I could always turn it into a pendant or something if I decide it’s not perfect for a ring? I don’t want to panic buy, but I can’t stop thinking about it.

For those of you who have gone with lab stones, have you ever regretted it? Or wished you held out for something natural?
