Photographing Alexandrites..?

I was taking pictures of a newly finished ring (NFS) this afternoon next to a window with indirect sunlight on one side and overhead LED lighting on the other, and to my eyes the alexandrite (natural from Sri Lanka) was a beautiful green, but the camera on my phone keeps capturing it as the dark tealy-purple in the picture. All of the other colors in the picture are true to life/my eyes; are alexandrites just another one of those stones that likes to mess with cameras, and are there any tricks or tips for getting the camera to catch the green?

(Added 2 lightbox pictures at the end, too.)

Do you think this is a real gem?

My Grandad gave me this ring; he said he got it in America 30-40 years ago from a native american road-side shop, and he said he thinks it’s turquoise? It’s so pretty! I’m just worried it’s valuable and I’m wearing it around 😭

Unsure about stone quality

Hello, I bought this ring as an engagement ring (many reasons for emerald choice).

When I picked it up I noted the white markings more than when I first viewed it and raised the point as was told that's part of the natural Colombian emerald. But somehow I'm feeling apprehensive and worried it's a real fissure or crack/bad scratch.

Not an expert in gemstones, so would love to hear some of the community's opinions! Is that a natural inclusion or should I be worried?

What is this stone set into my mom’s original 18k engagement ring?

(UPDATED WITH BETTER PICS :))

It was set into my mom’s original engagement ring when she got the diamond removed to be set in a different piece (approximately 12 years ago or so). She remembers them saying it was a sapphire, but not much else! It has flashes of purple/blue that are super hard to catch on camera, and the work was done in Sint Maarten- thank you for any/all help!

Misc small gemstones from 10-18k gold scrap.

These are stones pulled from scrapped gold, how do I figure out exactly what I have here? These are quite small. That's just a regular blue paper towel they're on.

What is this?

What is this on the surface of the sapphire? Natural inclusions? Rutile silk? Not polished surface? The entire stone is very clean. This is the only thing i found on the bottom of the sapphire.

Alexandrite. I guess from Russia. 0.85 cts, VS?.

Gems lovers/experts what is your thoughts any...?

This is alexandrite (should be from Russia, Ural) I bought for my wife 😀.

Strangely it's green only in really white cold LED light, in normal light it's kinda lght bluish-green. In incandenscent light, candle and light from lighter it become purplish-pink or pink.

But I guess because of size on fingers change in color can not see clearly 🤣🤣🤣.

Advice on using Sapphires for custom jewelry.

I purchased these Sapphires a few years ago from an auction on whim. It has several different sizes and cuts (total is about 20 carats) with the largest being an oval cut around 5.5 carats. The larger stones are darker blue with a green tint under normal light but appear to be natural (when held over a flashlight you can see the silk lines). My question is, I have a 10 year anniversary coming up and wanted to make some custom jewelry for my loved one. Are the large stones too dark to use and still look nice? She really likes white gold and I was thinking about having a pendant, ring and possibly earrings made. Since I want to make a set, I wanted to possibly use these unless it would detract from the gift. I really appreciate the advice!!

Mystery black stone in gifted ring

I was gifted this ring by a customer today, and have no clue what the stone could be! The inside of the band says GTR 10k on the inside. The stone itself appears black and opaque in regular light and surface is shiny, but when put up to a flashlight, the light shines through in a range of blues and greens. My camera seems to capture is brighter than I see it with my own eye, but am super curious! I don’t really care if there’s any value (i doubt there is lol)

Lavender moon quartz!

Since you all enjoyed my moonstone so much yesterday I thought I’d share my gateway stone to purchasing gems…a 4.25 carat lavender “moon quartz”. I know it’s heated so it is probably just marketing and really a heated amethyst but I’m really a sucker for any stone that has an inner glow.

It’s also cool to the touch and has some lines inside so I think it’s “natural” (but treated) ? Not sure if it’s actual moon quartz or if that is even a real thing but at $20ish dollars I’m happy with my first bauble to start my dragon horde. Someday I’ll make a necklace for my ballet loving little girl as it is all things dance girly and fairy feeling 🩰🩰
