Basic hygiene

College should introduce a mandatory course on basic hygiene worth 100 credits at this point because people are leaving fish and chicken bones on mess tables and not cleaning up after themselves. They should have tissues or wet wipes on every table now. People leave half-drunk cups of tea and food leftovers on the tables, expecting the staff members to be their personal servants hired to clean up after them, without realizing that this makes it harder for fellow students to use the same table again.

Do people not have any manners? Can't slow walkers and people walking in groups stop occupying the entire fucking footpath and simply walk on the left?

What the hell did I sign up for?

The campus is huge, but the population density is probably higher than that of Dharavi. There are more than 21,000 students on campus, yet the number of sports and club facilities seems barely enough to accommodate 20 people at a time. A lot of areas are still under construction, which makes navigating the campus even more difficult.

I'm staying in MH-7, and life here has been... miserable. There are only two functioning lifts, and they are constantly displaying the “Full Load” error. At this point, it feels like half of my life is going to be spent waiting for the lifts or climbing the stairs.

The entire building has only one water cooler, so everyone has to stand in line just to fill their bottles with drinking water. It genuinely looks like the scenes you see in videos or movies where people have to queue up in the morning to collect water. The bathrooms don't have showers either. The hostel rooms are barely finished, and many of the basic facilities still feel incomplete. On top of that, the staff often don't speak English, which makes things even more difficult.

The buildings aren't labelled properly, and the lack of adequate signage makes finding places unnecessarily difficult and hectic. With the sheer number of people constantly walking around, I have to be careful not to bump into someone, fall into an open drain, or trip over one of the unfinished footpaths. Even the footpaths aren't properly connected or shaded, which makes walking around in this weather even more exhausting.

The orientation session was another disappointment. It felt more like a demotivation session than an orientation. Most of the discussion revolved around CSE, AIML, and the possibility of students from non-CS branches switching to CSE in their second year. Since I'm a non-CSE student, the entire session felt incredibly disappointing, both for me and my parents. It was even more frustrating because, despite reaching the venue on time, we had to wait outside the orientation hall for around 30 minutes.

Commuting to Vijayawada is a nightmare as well. The auto drivers outside the campus often act like goons and charge ridiculous fares... almost twice what you'd pay after booking an Uber Auto, and sometimes nearly as much as the entire cab fare from Vijayawada to the campus. Even when you manage to book an Uber or another ride, the driver may arrive at the pickup point, pressure you to cancel the ride, and then demand an unreasonable amount of money.

The petty shops on campus are tiny and have a very limited selection of items. Around 90% of the stationery I need isn't even available in them.

Network connectivity is another major issue. I've been here for a while now and have been commuting back and forth between the campus and my hotel, but I genuinely can't remember a single time when I had full network coverage in my room. Around 90% of the time, I'm stuck with what feels like a 2G connection.

And then there's the weather. It's harsh enough as it is, but you aren't even allowed to keep a cooler or a table fan in your room, so there's barely any way to deal with the heat. Taken together, all of these issues make living here far more frustrating and miserable than I expected

Praises where they're due, though: the non-teaching staff members i've interacted with have generally been kind, helpful and very courteous. They respond to complaints and queries in a polite and graceful manner, which is genuinely appreciated considering how frustrating some of these issues have been

Annyeonghaseyo Seniors, watashi have some doubts. Onegai help a frsher tammudu kudasai 🥺

I'll be staying in the hostel, but I need some help with a few things:

  1. Is there a language barrier? Will my parents and I be able to get by speaking English or Hindi for the first few days while we’re in the city?

  2. Where can I buy mattresses? I’ll be staying around 10 minutes from the railway station, so I’ll need some help finding a good shop for a traditional cotton mattress/gadda and a good pillow. I’m not looking for memory foam or anything like that. I’d rather stick to a regular cotton mattress and pillow.

  3. What are some local spots in vijayawada I can explore with my family? Looking for places that are nice to visit while they’re here

Gracias!!

Hello, Vijayawada folks! I have a few quick questions. Would you mind helping out a tammudu?

Moving here for college (VIT-AP) from Bihar. I’ll be staying in the hostel, but I need some help with a few things:

Is it just me, or has there been a very big and sudden increase in garbage and litter around the city?

Like half of the road just ahead of Jubba Sahni Park was occupied by a meter-tall pile of garbage that was reeking BAD. I also noticed huge piles of garbage near LNT and LS, in Prajapati too and even around Sadpura and Neem Chowk. There used to be garbage and litter all around the city before too, but in the last couple of days, it has increased A LOT.

Also, what's up with so much traffic at Kalambagh and Aghoria these days, man? I've been living here for the past 20 years, but in the last couple of days, traffic has increased tenfold. It feels like the population doubled in the last week or so 💀
