Adrift Among the Dead
Adrift Among the Dead
Beneath the cracks of time, I fall
Into a place that shadows fear,
Where ghosts of wayward thoughts and thirsts
Arise to swim a lake of tears.
Within that wilderness of grief
The wails of woe fade into sighs,
While any sense of soul and self
Become a siren's song of lies.
Alone, adrift among the dead,
I trudge a road of rotting days
Towards an end I'd not have dreamt
When you first set my heart ablaze.
Shadowed in my mother's malice,
Enshrouded by false friendship's guise,
The shame of my own foolish faith
Delight's in mocking my demise.
Through the throngs of silent strangers,
Beyond the hall of torment's throne,
I wander without hope for dawn,
My fears unfurled by fate foreshown.
The sullen wraith of love's disdain
Drifts dour before my fading eyes,
And crawling through the gates of Hell,
I pass into the sightless skies.
