I called a plumber to come and have a look at a shower leak - they came, had a look at it, removed the shower head and left, stating they would be in touch.
I just got a phone call today telling me that they would have to replace the whole shower because they could not find the appropriate connector between the pipe and shower head. I don’t have the means to replace the whole shower at the moment so said I would think about it.
The man on the phone proceeded to tell me that the visit was £70 which I thought was ridiculous - nothing was fixed and I now have an open pipe and a shower head in my bathtub and no solution. When this was pointed out to him, he got mad and basically told me that I should never call their company again for work. I had never been charged for basically no work being done and was very surprised but maybe I’m in the wrong? I’m an architect and would never charge a client for a first chat consultation although this would mean I would take some of my time to meet with them.
If anyone is interested - basically the pipe is 18mm and the shower head is 22 which I understand is standard - the previous owner had done a bit of a botched job putting the two together. I felt that ordering an 18mm shower head would be the simplest thing but this was rebutted by the plumber.
