Focus mode is back by popular demand!

Focus Mode lets you hide toolbars, panels, and menus so you can stay focused on your work.

Turning it on

  • On iPad:
    • Four-finger tap anywhere on the screen
  • On iPad or Mac:
    • Press Command–Shift–F

What happens in Focus Mode?

  • When using focus mode everything is replaced by a single active tool that can be moved to any corner of the screen
  • Any open panels including the Page Manager, Learn panel, and Smart Notes close automatically
  • When using the Hand tool, everything is hidden for a completely clean view
  • The Audio tool (mic icon) will be visible if there is an active recording in the note

How to exit Focus Mode?

  • Tap on the active tool or four-finger tap anywhere on the screen

If you'd rather not use the gesture, you can disable it by going to:

  • To turn off completely, navigate to Notability Settings > Note Editor > Gestures > Enter and Exit Focus Mode > None

We'd love to hear how you're using it or any feedback you have!

Classic Plan does not include Audio Transcription or Learn

Hi everyone,

We've seen some confusion around whether the Classic plan includes audio transcription and Learn.

To clarify, Classic does not include audio transcription or Learn. If you've seen information on our website or in the app that suggests otherwise, that's an error. We're actively updating our messaging to make sure it accurately reflects what's included with Classic.

Classic includes:

  • Unlimited notes
  • Handwriting recognition
  • Math conversion to LaTeX
  • Collaboration
  • Sync across iOS, Android, and Web
  • 7-day version history

If you purchased Classic because you believed audio transcription and Learn were included, we'll provide you with a full refund.

To request a refund, please contact our support team through the app by going to Notability > Settings > Help > Contact Support. After you've submitted your request, send me a chat message with the email address you used, and I'll make sure your case gets to the right team.

We apologize for the confusion and appreciate your patience while we correct this.

You asked, we listened. Classic is back!

You've been asking for a one-time purchase option, and we heard you.

Today, we're making some of our biggest plan updates in years, including the return of Classic as a one-time purchase, a more valuable Starter plan, and Lite, our affordable paid plan now available across all platforms.

Classic: a one-time purchase

We’re officially bringing back the Classic plan as a one-time purchase for all users (App version 16.6).

Many of you remember Classic as a grandfathered version of Notability from before our subscription plans were introduced. Existing Classic users will keep their plan and now gain additional functionality, including the ability to upgrade to Notability Cloud with collaboration and cross-platform syncing.

Classic includes:

  • Unlimited notes
  • Handwriting recognition
  • Math conversion to LaTeX
  • Collaboration
  • Sync across iOS, Android, and Web
  • 7 day version history

Right now, we’re offering an additional limited-time discount on Classic plans exclusively for our Reddit community! Use code CLASSIC40 at notability.com to get Classic for $29.99 (US only). This offer is valid for 72 hours only.

After this discount ends, Classic plans can be purchased at the following prices:

Starter: Notability, For Free

Notability has always been free to download, and that’s not changing. We’ve improved Starter to give casual users more flexibility and make it a genuinely useful option for those who only use Notability occasionally.

Starter includes:

  • Up to 5 free notes
  • Core note-taking and editing tools
  • Access to our full library of 20,000+ note-taking templates
  • 7-day version history

Lite: Our Most Affordable Paid Option

We’re officially launching Lite across all platforms as our most affordable paid plan for users who simply want unlimited note-taking without AI tools.

Lite includes:

  • Unlimited notes
  • 3rd party backups (iOS only)
  • 7 day version history

20% Off Back-to-School Sale On notability.com

We're also offering 20% off on all plans on notability.com for a limited time to celebrate Back-to-School season. Plans purchased directly through notability.com will receive 20% off compared to App Store pricing. We want the web experience on Notability to become the best place to purchase and manage Notability.
